10' x 10' Round Silk Oriental Rug | Ivory Tabriz Medallion Design | Perfect Condition

A true circle, 120" across in every direction, with a 100% silk pile knotted over a cotton foundation. Round rugs this large are uncommon because the drawing has to stay perfectly concentric from the center rosette out to the fringe, and any drift in the weave shows immediately in a circle. This one holds its rings cleanly: medallion, field, guard stripes and red palmette border all track true. The silk gives the ivory ground a low, shifting sheen that changes as you walk around it, and the pile has never been laid in a home, so the surface still stands up sharp and unflattened. Every piece leaves us with a certificate of authenticity recording the weave, shape, materials and dimensions. As an Oriental rug woven to a classical Tabriz blueprint, it reads formal without reading heavy.

Design and Motifs

The center is an 8 petal rosette set in a red disc, ringed by a small ivory lattice and then by concentric bands that step outward like ripples: a row of tiny hearts, a band of hooked vine, a wider ring of paired leaves and blossoms, and a scalloped edge of red hearts that closes the medallion. Outside that, the open ivory field carries a continuous all-over vinescroll, thin stems curling into palmettes, lotus heads, serrated leaves and small carnation clusters, with four larger gold and taupe palmette cartouches spaced evenly around the field to give the circle its cardinal points. The field ends in a band of upright tulip and shield forms, then the main red border of alternating palmettes and rosette bouquets, each flanked by narrow guard stripes of running meander vine on ivory. The whole layout is drawn in curved line rather than angular village geometry, which is exactly what a Tabriz medallion design demands, and it finishes in hand-tied ivory fringe all the way around.

A Closer Look at the Colors

The field is ivory, a warm cream rather than a cold white, and because the pile is silk it reads lighter or deeper depending on the direction of the nap. Against it sits a clear tomato red, used for the medallion disc, the heart rings, the hearts along the tulip band and the full main border, so the red draws the eye in two tight concentric circles instead of spreading across the ground. The green in this rug is a muted sage to olive, saved for the leaves, the guard stripe vines and the shading inside the palmettes, and it does the quiet work of separating red from ivory. Around those three, the drawing is outlined in dark brown and charcoal for definition, with gold and tan in the four field palmettes, soft rose pink in the small blossoms, and a pale grey green in the inner medallion rings. The overall effect in daylight is ivory and red with a green undertone, warm and formal, and it sits easily on hardwood, stone or a pale broadloom.

Origin, Workshop and Weaving Quality

This rug was made in China, in the silk weaving tradition that grew up around the classical northwest medallion layouts and now supplies much of the world's fine hand-knotted silk work. The Tabriz design is the blueprint here, copied faithfully in its medallion, vinescroll field and palmette border, and it only works at a high knot count: a curved stem and a round medallion cannot be drawn on a coarse weave without going lumpy. The close-up of the back and the border shows a small, tight, even knot with crisp color breaks, which is what lets the vines stay as thin as a pencil line and the concentric rings stay perfectly circular across a 120" span. Silk pile on a cotton foundation gives that combination of sheen and stability: the cotton warps hold the circle flat and square to itself, while the silk carries the light.
