10' x 10' Round Oriental Rug | Wool and Silk Tabriz Design | Ivory All-Over Floral
Genuine round rugs at this diameter are uncommon, and a hand-knotted one in wool with silk highlights is rarer still. This 10' x 10' round Oriental rug carries a classic Tabriz all-over floral drawing across a pale ivory field, worked at a fine, tight knot count that lets the curved vine work stay crisp all the way around the circle. The pile is low and even, the handle is supple, and the silk passes catch the light as you walk past, which is exactly what you want in a round rug seen from every angle. It is brand new, never used, and ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is 100% hand-knotted.
Design and Motifs
The field carries no central medallion. Instead a continuous lattice of thin vine scroll runs across the whole circle, anchored at each junction by a small rosette with a layered petal count and surrounded by palmettes, serrated saz leaves and paired blossom sprays. The drawing repeats in radial symmetry so the pattern reads correctly whether you enter the room from the north or the south, a detail that separates a properly cartooned round rug from a rectangular design forced into a circle. Faint ton sur ton arcs are visible in the ground between motifs, giving the ivory field quiet movement even where there is no color. Three concentric borders frame the field: a broad main band of paired flower bouquets and curling leaf sprays, flanked by narrower guard stripes on a soft taupe ground, all of it curving cleanly into a hand-tied fringe.
A Pale Ivory Field With Blush, Sage and Burgundy
The ground is a warm ivory, closer to fresh cream than to white, and it shifts toward light beige where the silk takes the light differently from the wool. Against it the flower heads are drawn in blush pink, dusty rose and apricot, with gold and soft mustard petals opening out from centers picked in ivory and small dots of burgundy. Sage and olive green carry the leaves and stems, cool enough to keep the palette from turning sweet. Outlines are worked in a russet brown that gives every motif a clean edge, and a handful of charcoal and slate blue flower centers appear at intervals across the field and in the main border, small dark accents that give the eye somewhere to rest. The taupe guard stripes tie the whole scheme together. It is a neutral rug in overall effect, but a colorful one at close range.
Origin and Weaving Quality
This piece was made in China, where workshop weavers have produced fine hand-knotted floral rugs in the Tabriz tradition for decades, using the same curvilinear cartoons, cotton foundations and wool with silk accents that the style demands. The quality here is the workshop grade rather than the commercial grade: the knot count is high enough to hold a thin single-line vine without it breaking up, the selvedges are tight, and the fringe is an extension of the warps rather than a sewn-on finish. Comparable weaving is found throughout our Oriental rugs collection, but a true 10 foot circle in this fineness turns up only occasionally. Laid under a round dining table or centered in a rotunda or open entry, it will hold its drawing and its low even pile for generations.
