Design and Motifs

The field is drawn in the detached-spray manner that defines the Sarouk look: no continuous lattice, just individual bouquets, curling serrated leaves and weeping willow clusters set loose on open blue ground so each motif reads on its own. A small diamond medallion of ivory arabesque sits at the center, echoed above and below by matching lobed cartouches, while 4 large shield-shaped palmettes anchor the quarters and 2 big cypress-and-blossom trees fill the ends. The generous negative space between motifs is deliberate and is what keeps a rug this size from feeling busy. The main border runs a chain of round wheel rosettes, 8 petal star flowers and leafy vine, edged on both sides by ivory guard stripes carrying a small reciprocal sawtooth and a running floral meander.

Royal Blue Field and Rose Red Border

Royal blue is the main color, a saturated midnight-leaning navy that lightens to an almost sapphire tone where the silky pile lies with the nap. Against it the drawing is worked in rose red and brick red blossoms, soft beige and ivory outlines, sage and bottle green leaves, and touches of gold that warm the whole field. The wide main border shifts the balance completely, a rose red ground closer to salmon than to true crimson, carrying rosettes in navy, ivory, powder blue and green so the two halves of the palette trade places.
