10' x 14' Ziegler Oriental Rug | Light Green & Beige All Over Floral | Natural Wool Pile

This is a hand-knotted Ziegler in a room filling 10' x 14', woven in Pakistan with a hand-spun natural wool pile on a cotton foundation. The field is a soft light green, quiet enough to read as a neutral from across the room, and it is framed by a wide ivory border that carries the drawing outward instead of closing it off. It has never been used, the pile is full and the selvedges and fringes are clean, as the corner and back photographs show. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the weaver used a true all over floral design, a lattice of thin vine scroll that links large fan shaped palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, serrated acanthus leaves and small budding blossoms across the whole field. The repeat is balanced rather than rigid, so the eye keeps moving and the pattern never looks printed. The wide main border carries the heaviest drawing in the rug, big palmettes and curling leaves set on ivory, and it is held in place by narrow guard stripes of rose and soft green filled with a running blossom meander. Corner resolution is clean, with the border motifs turning properly at all 4 corners rather than being cut off. Because the design has no medallion, the rug works under a large seating group or a long dining table without the center being hidden.

A Soft Light Green Field With Ivory and Rose

The field is a pale, slightly grey light green, close to sage or celadon, with the gentle abrash that hand-spun wool always produces, so the ground shifts very slightly in tone as the light crosses it. Against that the florals are drawn in beige, sand, soft camel and antique gold, with muted rose and dusty pink in the larger palmettes and flickers of terracotta and deep red used sparingly as accents. Dark spruce green outlines the leaves and gives the drawing definition without adding contrast that would harden the palette. The border is a warm ivory, almost cream, with the same rose, gold and green repeated in the flowers, and the guard bands read as a soft mauve pink. The whole scheme is deliberately low contrast and light, which is why the rug settles easily with white walls, pale oak, warm wood furniture and greys.
