Design and Motifs

Between the plants sit small 4 petal cross flowers and tiny buds that keep the ground from ever looking empty. Because the repeat is offset row to row, the field reads as a continuous garden rather than a grid, and the pattern stays legible from a standing height across all 15'2" of length. The border does the heavy lifting on formality: a wide burgundy band carrying alternating gold palmettes, ivory roses and 6 point star rosettes, held between a narrow dark stripe of small ivory crosses on one side and a blush and gold outer band of soft leaf forms on the other.
