At 12' x 15'4" this Ziegler Chobi covers a full great room wall to wall, and it was drawn to be seen at that scale: a deep burgundy field carrying a mirrored lattice of vines, and a wide ivory border that lifts the whole piece off a dark floor. The pile is handspun wool at 5/16", knotted on a cotton foundation, with the slightly irregular, hand-carded surface that takes light differently as you walk around it. It has never been used, the ends and selvages are original and tight, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity. Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over floral design with no central medallion, built on slender ivory stems that cross and re-cross in long ogival arcs up the length of the rug. Sitting on that framework are three repeating flower types: broad serrated palmettes, split leaf forms turned in profile, and open 8 petal rosettes with small pointed centers. Between them the weaver scattered tiny 5 point star flowers and paired lance leaves so the burgundy ground never reads as empty. The main border runs a procession of large lotus palmettes and curling paisley forms across ivory, separated by leafy connectors, with a gold guard stripe on each side carrying a small repeating blossom and bracket motif. The corners are resolved cleanly rather than cut off mid-figure, which is the mark of a properly plotted cartoon.

Burgundy, Ivory and Gold Color Story

The ground is a saturated wine burgundy that moves between a cooler, almost plum tone and a warmer brick red depending on the light, the natural abrash you get from vegetable dyed, handspun yarn.
