13'9" x 15'7" Chobi Peshawar Rug | Beige All-Over Floral Vine | Oversize Squarish Format, Never Used

Measuring 13'9" x 15'7", this Chobi Peshawar is a genuinely squarish piece, only 22 inches deeper than it is wide, which makes it one of the more useful shapes among oversize hand-knotted rugs for a wide great room or a square formal salon. It is hand-knotted with hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, and the pile is full, even and unworn: this rug has never been on a floor. The drawing is an all-over floral vine in the Chobi manner, worked entirely in soft, sun-washed tones with no central medallion to anchor a furniture plan, so it takes seating from any direction. Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over floral design built on a continuous scrolling vine that repeats across the full 13'9" width. Large lobed palmettes sit on the center line, flanked by 8 petal rosettes whose hearts are drawn with a single hair-fine brick red outline, the only sharp accent in the whole rug. Between them the weavers filled the ground with curled lancet leaves, serrated acanthus sprays, small 5 petal star flowers and tiny buds, all rendered at a slightly open scale that lets the beige ground breathe. Three borders frame the field: a broad main band carrying alternating boteh cartouches and floral bouquets, set between narrow guard stripes of small 4 petal rosettes on a reciprocal vine. The corners are resolved cleanly, with the border pattern turning the angle rather than colliding, which is a sign of a competent cartoon and a disciplined loom.

The Beige and Sage Color Palette

The ground reads as a warm beige that shifts between pale sand and light straw as the light moves across the pile, with gentle abrash striping through the open areas from the hand-spun yarn. The border steps up into a deeper honey gold, giving the rug a visible frame without introducing contrast. Inside the drawing the palette stays deliberately quiet: muted sage green and pale celadon in the leaves and palmette lobes, taupe and dove gray in the vines, walnut and cocoa brown in the larger rosette centers, a blush of pale peach in the star flowers, and clean ivory in the small border blossoms. The brick red outlines are used sparingly, a few stitches at a time, and they are what keep the whole surface from going flat.
