14' x 22'2" Oversize Hand-Knotted Wool Rug | Antique Persian All-Over Design | Rust Coral & Navy

This one is hand-knotted with a 3/8 inch wool pile on a cotton foundation, made in India after an antique Persian cartoon, and the repeat has been scaled up correctly so the field still reads as one continuous garden rather than a pattern stretched to fit. The field is rust coral, the main border indigo navy, and the piece is brand new and never used, in perfect condition, with the pile standing full height across all 310 square feet. Design and Motifs

The field is a classic all-over design built on a lattice of thin ivory and dark blue vines that swing in wide arcs from one end of the rug to the other. Hanging off that lattice are big serrated rosettes in ivory and gold, navy lotus palmettes, green cross flowers with small white centers, and long chocolate brown feathered leaves that give the drawing its weight. On the vertical axis the weaver has set a column of navy shield cartouches, cloud band scrolls and paired split leaves that mirror across the center line, so the rug has a spine even though there is no medallion. The navy main border alternates an ivory and olive gold palmette with a salmon and blue fan palmette, separated by curling acanthus leaves, and it is flanked by narrow diagonal barber pole stripes and two beige guard bands carrying a small cross flower repeat. The corners resolve cleanly at all 4 turns, which is the first thing to check on a rug this size.

A Rust Coral Field Under Indigo Navy

The ground is a warm rust coral, closer to terracotta and brick than to a bright orange, and it shifts subtly in the photographs as the pile catches the light, going deeper toward the ends and lighter through the middle where the wool lies flat. Against it the palette is deliberately soft rather than loud: olive and mustard gold in the rosette hearts, sage and celadon green in the leaves, powder blue in the small buds, taupe and cream in the tendrils, salmon pink in the flower heads, and dark chocolate brown in the large leaf sprays. Ivory does the outlining work, tracing the vines and the rosette petals so the pattern stays legible across 22 feet. The indigo navy main border is nearly black in shadow and clearly blue in daylight, and it frames the warm field the way a dark mat frames a painting, which is exactly why this color pairing has never gone out of fashion.
