Design and Motifs

The field carries a classical Tabriz drawing, an all over floral design with no medallion, so the pattern reads evenly no matter where a doorway or a console table interrupts the run. Thin ochre vines link a repeating lattice of palmettes, 8 petal rosettes and split lanceolate leaves, with large curling cloudband leaves swinging out on either side of each central flower. The repeat is mirrored across the width, which is why the runner looks balanced from both ends of a corridor. Three borders frame the field: a narrow inner guard of small blossoms, a wide main border of alternating flowerheads and serrated leaves, and an outer guard punctuated with tiny black dots that sharpen the whole edge. The corners are properly resolved rather than cut off mid motif, a detail that separates careful workshop drawing from production shortcuts.

Ivory Ground with Rust, Black and Light Blue Accents

Ivory is the main color, a warm cream rather than a cold white, and it fills both the field and the main border so the rug lightens a dark hallway instead of weighing it down. The flowers are drawn in rust and terracotta, deepening to a soft burgundy at the heart of the larger palmettes, and each blossom is outlined in a fine brown line that keeps the drawing crisp against the pale ground. Black appears in small, deliberate amounts: the centers of the big serrated leaves, the tips of the cloudbands and the dotted outer guard, and that touch of black is what gives the ivory its contrast. Light blue and pale sage sit inside the leaves and flowerheads as cooling secondary notes, while the silk in the pile catches the light along the vines so the pattern shifts slightly as you walk the length of it.

This is an honest, contemporary hand-knotted Oriental rug made in China, woven to a Tabriz cartoon by weavers working in that classical idiom. Chinese workshops built their fine-weave reputation on exactly this kind of piece: a tight cotton warp and weft, a low clipped pile so the small florals stay legible, and silk introduced at the outlines and flower centers for sheen. The back photograph shows the knot nodes in even, regular rows with no pulling or waviness across 20' of length, which is the real test on a runner this long, since any tension fault would show as a bow in the sides. The wool has a firm, dry handle that wears well under traffic, the selvedges are tightly overcast and the fringe is the extension of the warp rather than a sewn-on addition.
