5'6" x 9' Persian Rug | Light Turquoise All-Over Rose Bouquet Design | Fine Wool Pile, 2000s
Pale turquoise is an unusual ground colour for a Persian floral rug, and it is what makes this 5'6" x 9' piece worth stopping on. The field is a soft, cool blue-green, and across it sit rows of cream shields, each one holding a small bouquet of roses. The pile is fine wool on a cotton foundation, the weave is even and tight, and at roughly 6x9 the rug sits comfortably under a sofa and coffee table or a four-seat dining set, which puts it squarely among the most requested 6x9 Persian rugs. Woven in the 2000s and in perfect condition with full pile and original hand-tied fringe, it ships with a certificate of authenticity from Rugs.net confirming it as a genuine hand-knotted Persian rug.
Design and Motifs
The field is drawn as a repeat, not around a central medallion, which is why the pattern reads calmly from every side of the room. Cream shield-shaped cartouches are staggered in offset rows, about 7 rows deep and 4 across, each enclosing a bouquet of 3 open roses with buds, sprays of narrow sage leaves and a thin curling tendril that hooks out beyond the shield. A serrated navy vine outlines every cartouche and a small leafy stem links one bouquet to the next, so the whole field behaves as a single continuous vine rather than a grid of separate motifs, the hallmark of good all-over Persian rug designs. The main border is a camel-gold band carrying red angular vine work, 8 petal rosettes and small shaped medallions, flanked by narrow navy and red guard stripes of alternating blossoms. All 4 corners resolve cleanly, with the border pattern turning the angle without a break or a crowded fudge.
Colour, from Pale Turquoise to Camel Gold
The ground is a light turquoise that sits between seafoam and robin's egg, clear and slightly powdery, and it lightens or cools depending on the light in the room. Against it the shields are ivory warming to pale camel, so the bouquets lift off the field instead of fighting it. Inside each bouquet there are 3 distinct rose tones: a soft salmon pink, a brighter rust orange with ivory highlights, and a deep aubergine brown that gives the group its weight. Leaves run through muted sage and olive green, outlined and veined in navy almost black, with tiny cobalt blue dots at the rose centres and occasional ivory sprays. The border shifts the temperature entirely, a warm camel gold worked with brick red and navy, so the cool field is framed by warmth. Buyers comparing it against other blue Persian rugs will find this one considerably lighter and softer than a navy-ground piece, and far easier to live with in a pale or grey room.
Origin and Weaving Quality
The rug was hand-knotted in Persia in the 2000's; the original dealer tag records only the rug number and the size, with the origin line left blank, so we list it honestly as Persian rather than attach a town to it. What the weave itself says is more useful than a guess. The knotting is fine and evenly beaten, which is what allows the rose petals and the curling tendrils to be drawn in curves rather than steps, and the wool is well spun with a quiet sheen that shows in the close-up photographs. Selvedges are tight, the fringe is original and hand-tied, and the pile stands full with no low spots or restoration, consistent with a rug of this age that has had very little use.
