Design and Motifs

The field is a true all-over floral design, with no central medallion dominating the layout. Slender navy vines arc into a diamond trellis, and inside each diamond sits a bouquet: eight petal rosettes, small serrated leaves, a single open blossom at the crown and paired buds falling to the sides. Between the diamonds, larger curved leaf forms and standing sprays fill the ground so that the coral background is read as air around the flowers rather than empty space. Near the center, one compartment holds a small navy lobed rosette with red and ivory petals, the closest the drawing comes to a medallion, flanked above and below by ivory palmette crowns. The main border is ivory, filled with a meandering vine that links alternating rose and navy blossoms, and it is fenced on both sides by narrow navy guard stripes carrying a running flower head. The four corners resolve cleanly, with the border vine turning without breaking the repeat, a detail the weaker copies of this pattern almost never get right.

A Coral Orange Field Read Against Navy and Cream
