6' x 10' Persian Tabriz Rug | Ivory Floral Medallion | Approx. 400 KPSI Fine Wool

This 6' x 10' piece is a classic workshop drawing from Tabriz: an ivory field carrying a single rose-toned rosette medallion, matching pendants at each end, and rust-brown spandrels finished with bright yellow cornerpieces. The wool is tightly packed at a 3/8" pile over a cotton foundation, and the back photograph shows the small, square, evenly spaced knots that let the weaver draw curved vines and petal outlines without a single wobble. It is a room-size rug that reads formal from across the floor and then rewards a close look, which is the whole point of a good Tabriz. Design and Motifs

The center holds an 8 petal rosette medallion: a sea green core with a small red and ivory star at its heart, ringed by dusty rose lobes filled with tiny stylized blossoms, then a fringe of cream and brown teardrop pendants radiating outward. Above and below it sit lobed pendant cartouches in rust and navy, each hooked with curling split-leaf arabesques. The open ivory ground between them is never empty: coral palmettes, navy rosettes, feathered saz leaves and slender flowering sprays climb along thin brown vine scrolls in perfect mirrored symmetry. The rust-brown spandrels at all 4 corners repeat the same flowerheads at a smaller scale and end in yellow panels set with pale turquoise squares, a signature Tabriz flourish. The main border runs blush rose with alternating palmettes and vase-like blossoms, flanked by olive-gold guard stripes of repeating rosettes and a fine red outline that frames the whole field.

Colors in Detail

The field is a warm ivory with a faint buttery cast, the kind of ground that keeps a room bright rather than washing it out, which is why ivory Persian rugs sit so easily with oak floors and cream walls. Against it the medallion works in soft dusty rose and clay pink, cooled by a sea green center that is the single most striking note in the rug. The spandrels are a muted brick rust, warmer and browner than the coral and tomato red used in the smaller flowerheads, and the yellow cornerpieces add a clean gold accent that ties back to the olive-gold guard stripes. Deep navy and indigo outline many of the palmettes and give the drawing its definition, while touches of teal, powder blue, forest green, pale lilac and white appear inside individual blossoms. The main border's blush rose is a shade lighter than the medallion, so the eye moves from ivory to pink to rust without a hard break anywhere.

Tabriz Origin and Weaving Quality

Tabriz sits in northwest Persia and has been the country's most disciplined weaving city for centuries, the place where cartoon drawing, dyeing and knotting are treated as separate crafts done by separate specialists. Fineness there is measured in Raj, the number of knots across a gereh of about 2.75 in, and at roughly 60 Raj this rug lands near 400 knots per square inch: fine enough to carry curved vine work and petal shading cleanly, and well above the village standard. You can see the result in the back, where the rows are straight and consistent from end to end with no pull or waist along the sides. The wool has the dry, resilient handle Tabriz weavers prefer, so the 3/8" pile stands up under traffic instead of matting, and the cotton warp and weft keep the rectangle true.
