6' x 8'9" Chobi Oriental Rug | Olive Green All Over Floral Vine | Hand-Knotted Wool, Made in India

This is a brand new, never used Chobi measuring 6' x 8'9", hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with a 3/8" pile that still has the springy, unwalked feel of a rug straight off the loom. The field is a deep olive green carrying a warm khaki undertone, drawn over with a continuous floral vine and framed by a wide ivory border. It is a quiet piece rather than a loud one, which is exactly why this kind of Oriental rug works so well under existing furniture instead of fighting it. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the weaver ran a classic all over floral design from selvage to selvage: a pale green vine that loops, splits and reconnects, carrying fan-shaped palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, small buds and long serrated leaves drawn in dark navy. The drawing is mirrored along the long axis, so each half of the field answers the other without ever repeating exactly, and the curling navy tendrils at the sides give the layout its movement. The main ivory border repeats a linked chain of large palmettes and rosettes joined by a fine dark vine, and it is held between narrow gold guard stripes carrying a much smaller running flower. Corners are resolved cleanly, the field guard stripe turns without a break, and the rug finishes in a plain ivory fringe over an olive selvage.

Olive Green, Ivory and Gold

Olive green is the anchor color, and it is not a flat green: the ground shifts between a mossy olive and a softer khaki as the light moves across the pile, the gentle abrash you expect from hand-spun wool taken through natural dye baths. Against it the palmettes are worked in cream, buttery gold and tan, with soft salmon pink and pale celadon highlights inside the larger blossoms and small burgundy hearts at their centers. Navy blue does the outlining, in the serrated leaves and in the fine stems that keep the drawing legible. The border reverses the balance, a warm ivory to cream ground with rust, gold, olive and navy florals, so the green field reads darker and deeper by contrast.
