7'10" x 9'8" Sino Sarouk Rug | Ivory Wool & Silk Floral Medallion | Brand New, Never Used

Flat on the floor, this 7'10" x 9'8" Sino Sarouk looks like a bed of roses scattered across cream silk. It is a hand-knotted Oriental rug with a fine wool pile lifted by silk highlights, woven on a cotton foundation and clipped low so that every flower head stays legible from standing height. The condition is exactly as stated: brand new and never used, with full even pile, straight sides and bright ivory fringe at both ends. Each piece we ship includes a certificate of authenticity confirming it is 100% hand-knotted, along with the measurements, materials and design recorded above.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is the classic Sarouk floral formula, rendered here with unusual delicacy. At the center sits an oval medallion built from a looping ribbon of brown vinework, filled with full cabbage roses and small five petal blossoms and ringed by a wreath of flower heads. Around it the field carries detached bouquets rather than a continuous lattice: tied sprays of roses, buds and sage leaves set at measured intervals, each one shaded individually so no two read quite the same. Two large scrolling acanthus brackets sweep into each end of the field and the 4 corners are closed with curling leaf spandrels that frame small rose cartouches. The border system runs 5 bands deep, an ivory main border of flowering vine with a small centered motif at the midpoint of each end, a sand colored inner band of alternating blossoms, and narrow zigzag guard stripes that hold the whole scheme tight. Detail shots show the silk used for outlines and petal edges, which is where the sheen comes from.

A Soft Ivory Palette With Rose and Sage Accents

The main color is ivory, a warm chalky cream rather than a cold white, and it covers both the open field and the main border so the rug behaves like a light rug overall. Against that ground the roses run through a graded range of dusty rose, antique pink, salmon and a few deeper burgundy centers, while the foliage moves from soft sage to a muted olive green. The vine scrolls and the larger corner brackets are drawn in a toasted brown that gives the composition its structure, and the inner border shifts to a pale sand beige that separates the field from the main border without introducing a hard line. There are small touches of butter gold and soft gray in the smaller blossoms. It is a palette for rooms with light walls, pale oak or walnut floors and furniture in cream, taupe or faded red, and it sits naturally with other ivory and beige Oriental rugs.

Origin and Weaving Quality

This rug is honestly made in China, in the Sino workshop tradition that took up the classical floral repertoires and wove them at a high knot count on cotton warps. Sino weaving is known for discipline: the knotting is dense and regular, the pile is sheared short so the fine drawing is not blurred, and silk is introduced sparingly as outline and highlight rather than used for whole motifs. The back photograph with the ruler laid across it shows how closely the rows sit together and how cleanly the border bands register from the reverse, which is the honest test of a hand-knotted piece. At 7'10" x 9'8" it belongs with the standard 8x10 Oriental rugs that anchor a seating group with furniture legs on, and because it has never been used the pile still has its full original height and luster.
