Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the black field carries a full all-over repeat: large rounded palmettes and open rosettes linked by a slender ivory vine that travels the full length of the rug, with lanceolate leaves, small 4 petal blossoms and shield-shaped cartouches filling the ground between them. The layout is mirrored on both axes, so the field reads as one continuous garden rather than a stack of rows. The main border is wide and camel-toned, set with staggered palmettes and serrated leaves, and it is framed by 3 narrow guard stripes of small repeating flowerheads. A thin black outer band closes the composition on all 4 sides and ties the border back to the field.

A True Black Ground With Warm Camel and Rust

The field is a genuine black, not a very dark navy or brown, and it holds that depth even in the angled photographs where the pile catches light.
