The pile is wool with silk drawn through the flowers and leaves, so the ivory work lifts off the deep ruby red ground whenever the light moves across it. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the field carries a mirrored all-over layout built from large round rosettes, shield shaped palmettes and long serrated leaves, all linked by thin curling vine scrolls that run corner to corner. Between the big blossoms sit small 8 petal rosettes and tiny buds, so the red ground never reads as empty space. The main border is wide and ivory, alternating full palmettes with upright lily and carnation sprays, and it is fenced on both sides by narrow guard stripes of small flower heads set on a camel vine. A slim tan inner band separates border from field, and the outer edge finishes in solid ruby red, which frames the whole drawing and keeps the ivory from bleeding visually into the floor. Symmetry is exact along both axes, a sign the design was woven from a full graph rather than improvised.

A Deep Ruby Red Field Held in Ivory and Green

The field is a deep ruby red with a wine cast, dark enough to sit calmly under furniture and saturated evenly from end to end. Against it the floral work is drawn in cream and ivory, shaded outward into pale peach, apricot and soft salmon, with flower centers picked out in slate blue, pearl grey, muted lavender and small dots of rose. The foliage is the quiet part of the palette: sage and olive green leaves with fine charcoal outlines that give every blossom a crisp edge. The border ground is a warm ivory cream, and the guard stripes shift to a light camel tan that bridges the red and the ivory.
