Design and Motifs

The field is a true all-over composition rather than a medallion layout, built on a lattice of thin curving vines that link one blossom cluster to the next with no visible break from end to end. Look closely at the detail photograph and the vocabulary is pure Kashan drawing: multi-petal rosettes rendered in concentric rings, split palmettes, pineapple shaped bud forms standing upright on their stems, serrated saz leaves, and small clusters of 5 petal blossoms scattered where the vines cross. The drawing is mirrored across both axes, so the pattern reads as calm and orderly instead of busy. Framing it is a 3 band border system, a generous ivory main band carrying its own floral chain of palmettes and paired birds of paradise style leaf forms, flanked by narrow guard stripes of small blossoms on a paler ground, with a fine burgundy outline holding the whole thing together at the edge.

A Burgundy Field With Ivory, Green and Silk Highlights

The ground is a deep burgundy with a slightly plum cast, closer to wine than to fire red, and it stays even across the full 9'9" length with no visible abrash.
