8'10" x 12' Jaipur Oriental Rug | Antique-Inspired All-Over Floral | Beige, Gold & Olive Green
This is a new, never used hand-knotted Oriental rug from Jaipur, woven on a finer weave loom than most room-size production and drawn from a 19th century antique pattern. The field is a warm beige that leans toward camel in raking light, filled corner to corner with olive green vinework, and it is framed by a wide antique gold border that lifts the whole piece. At 8'10" x 12' it sits squarely in the 9x12 Oriental rugs range that most living and dining rooms are built around, and the pile is still full and unworn, with crisp hand-tied cotton fringe at both ends. It ships with our certificate of authenticity confirming origin, materials and hand-knotted construction.
Design and Motifs
The drawing is an all-over floral design rather than a formal medallion layout. Long serrated olive leaves curve into an ogival lattice across the field, and each compartment is filled with lotus palmettes, split leaf arabesques, small rosettes and curling tendrils that end in tiny red and teal buds. A single 8 petal rosette marks the center point, with matching half palmettes answering it at the top and bottom so the pattern reads as deliberately composed rather than scattered. The surround is a 5 band border: a gold main band carrying lobed cartouche medallions and feathered leaf sprays, two brown guard stripes with a running vine, and narrow floral outer stripes that carry the pattern right out to the selvedge. Corner resolutions are clean, with the gold band mitered and the cartouches repeating evenly along all 4 sides.
A Palette Built on Beige, Gold and Olive Green
The ground color is a soft natural beige with a faint honey cast, the kind of neutral that shifts with the light rather than staying flat. Over it, the vines and large leaves are drawn in a muted olive green that dries toward sage in the highlights, while the main border shifts to a deeper antique gold that is close to old brass where the pile catches the light. The accents are small but they do the real work: oxblood and burgundy outlines on the palmettes, soft raspberry and dusty rose on the blossoms, pale teal blue in the rosette centers, ivory in the cartouche interiors, and a cool grey brown in the guard stripes. Nothing is bright and nothing is washed out, so the rug settles easily next to walnut, oak, cream upholstery or warm white walls without fighting anything in the room.
Woven in Jaipur, India
Jaipur in Rajasthan is one of the few places still producing serious hand-knotted work at scale, and India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted Oriental rugs are now made. This one is a finer weave quality piece: the back shows small, tight, evenly packed knots on a cotton foundation, which is what allows the vine outlines and the fine stems in the field to stay thin and legible instead of turning blocky. The wool has a quiet luster and a firm hand, clipped to a medium pile that shows the drawing clearly while still feeling substantial underfoot. The weaver's cotton fringe is hand-tied, the selvedges are tightly overcast, and the rug lies flat and square, exactly what you want in a room-size piece that will be anchoring furniture for decades.
