8' x 10'4" Oriental Rug | Olive Green All-Over Floral | Jaipur Quality Wool, Never Used

This 8' x 10'4" piece is a brand new, never used hand-knotted wool rug in the Jaipur quality grade, and it is one of the easier large rugs to live with because the olive green ground reads as a warm neutral rather than a colour statement. The pile is dense and tightly clipped, the drawing is crisp enough to show every outline in the flowers, and the black border gives the whole floor a frame that holds furniture inside it. Among 8x10 Oriental rugs this is the practical room size, covering a seating group or sitting under a six seat table without crowding the walls. Every rug we ship carries our certificate of authenticity confirming it is handmade and hand-knotted.

Design and Motifs

The field is an all-over floral composition built around a small round rosette medallion at the centre, drawn in concentric rings of ivory, teal and copper with a tiny 5 petal flower at its core. From there the pattern repeats symmetrically in both directions: large fan shaped palmettes, lotus blossoms with curled outer petals, serrated leaves that twist as they turn, and thin vines carrying buds and 4 petal flowerheads through the open ground. Quarter rosettes anchor the 4 corners of the field so the repeat reads as a continuous garden rather than a stopped panel. The main border runs a procession of broad palmettes and heart shaped blossoms separated by small leaf sprays, and it is held on both sides by narrow ivory guard stripes carrying a running vine. The transitional drawing is traditional in vocabulary but open and uncluttered in spacing, which is why it sits comfortably with modern furniture.

The Olive Green, Black and Copper Palette

The ground is a soft olive green with a sage cast that warms toward camel where the light catches the nap, and the pile has enough lustre that the field shifts tone as you walk around it. Against that, the border is a deep charcoal black, almost ink, which makes the flowers inside it glow. The floral work is carried in salmon and copper, antique beige, ivory, soft teal blue, muted olive and sage, with cinnamon brown and a dark burgundy used only for outlines and small accents. That burgundy outlining is what keeps the drawing legible at a distance. Ivory guard stripes and ivory cotton fringe close the ends and lighten the heavy border. It is a palette that works with warm woods, brass, cream upholstery and black metal, and it hides everyday traffic better than an ivory or pale field.

Jaipur Weaving Quality and Origin

India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is now made, and the weaving centres around Jaipur in Rajasthan are the reason for it: skilled workshops, consistent handspun wool, and quality control that competes with anything on the market. This is a workshop Oriental rug, knotted by hand on a cotton foundation with a dense wool pile, and the back photograph shows the regular knot rows and clean colour separation that come with careful weaving rather than production shortcuts. The wool is hand clipped low enough to keep the fine outlines sharp while still leaving real body underfoot, and the selvedges and ends are finished by hand. Condition is perfect and the rug has never been on a floor.
