8'6" x 11'6" Kashan Design Oriental Rug | Burgundy Field, Ivory Medallion | 200 KPSI Fine Wool, Never Used
Hand-knotted in Pakistan at approximately 200 knots per square inch, this 8'6" x 11'6" Oriental rug takes the classical Kashan medallion layout and works it in fine lustrous wool that carries a soft silk-like sheen under light. The pile is dense and evenly clipped, the drawing is crisp enough to hold small rosettes and serrated leaves at full detail, and the cotton foundation gives the rug the weight and lie-flat body you expect from serious workshop production. It is brand new, never used, with no wear anywhere on the surface, and it ships with a certificate of authenticity.
Design and Motifs
The center holds a lobed ink-dark medallion outlined in ivory, filled with a symmetrical arrangement of rosettes, palmettes and curling leaf forms, with a small 8 petal rosette at the exact center and ivory pendants extending top and bottom. The field around it is a true all-over floral composition: thin scrolling vines carrying blossom clusters, split palmettes, cypress-like sprays and serrated leaves, mirrored along both axes so the drawing reads the same from either end of the room. The 4 corners carry large ivory and dark spandrels that frame the field without crowding it. The main border runs palmettes and arabesque scrollwork on a near-black ground, flanked by guard stripes of small flowerheads and a fine reciprocal outer stripe, and the corners resolve cleanly, which is the first thing to check on any medallion rug.
A Deep Burgundy Field with Ivory, Gold and Dark Green
The field is a deep wine burgundy, dark enough to read almost black in shadow and warm and glowing where the light rakes across the pile, which is exactly how a lustrous wool surface should behave. Against it the drawing is picked out in ivory and cream, soft beige, camel gold and a muted antique salmon, with dark green leaves and occasional teal accents that keep the palette from tipping too warm. The main border is a near-black navy that pushes the burgundy forward, while the guard stripes bring in a sage green and small brick red flowerheads. The medallion combines that same black ground with ivory outlines and rust and green flower heads, so the center reads as a distinct jewel rather than dissolving into the field. It is a formal, low-glare color scheme that sits comfortably with dark wood, leather and cream walls.
Woven in Pakistan at 200 Knots per Square Inch
Pakistan's weaving centers are among the few places still producing hand-knotted goods at this level of finish, and this piece shows why: a tight, regular knot count of around 200 per square inch on a cotton foundation, clean selvedges, a straight hand-woven kilim end and full even pile from edge to edge. The higher knot density is what allows the fine vine work and the small floral heads to stay legible instead of turning blocky, and the wool selection gives the surface its sheen. At 8'6" x 11'6" this covers the same footprint buyers shop for in 9x12 area rugs, large enough to carry a full seating group with all legs on the rug, and because it has never been used the pile still has its full original height.
