This is a brand new, never used 8'6" x 11'6" hand-knotted Oriental rug woven in the classic Serapi manner, with a rust red field, a navy stepped medallion and generous ivory corner spandrels. The pile is a soft, silky wool that already carries a low sheen straight off the loom, knotted onto a cotton foundation with tight, even rows and hand-tied ivory fringes at both ends. Handle it and the difference from a machine product is immediate: the wool has weight and drape, the drawing is slightly irregular in the way only a human hand produces, and the colors shift gently as you walk around it. Design and Motifs

The layout is the textbook Heriz-Serapi formula, one of the most recognizable of all geometric medallion rugs, but drawn here with more refinement than most village versions allow. At the center sits an 8 point ivory star medallion holding a small red rosette, framed by 4 boxed cartouches filled with light blue leaf sprays. That core rests inside a navy stepped medallion whose serrated outline steps outward in crisp right angles, finished top and bottom by dark cypress-like pendants. The rust field around it is filled with large serrated palmettes, curling split leaves, rosettes and thin vine scroll that never tangles. Ivory spandrels sweep across all 4 corners carrying their own hooked vines and small blue cartouche panels. The main navy border runs an alternating rhythm of rosettes and paisley-shaped leaves, flanked by ivory guard stripes and a fine reciprocal sawtooth edge, which is what keeps a busy field from feeling crowded.

Rust Red, Navy and Ivory Color Palette

The field reads as a warm brick rust rather than a hot fire engine red, with faint tonal movement through the open ground where the silky wool catches light differently row to row. Against it, the medallion and main border are a deep midnight navy that reads almost black in low light and opens into true blue under a lamp. Ivory does the heavy lifting between the two: it outlines the medallion, fills the 4 corner spandrels and separates the borders as narrow guard bands, which is why the drawing stays legible from across the room. Scattered through the field are light blue and dusty sky blue accents in the palmettes, the boxed panels and the corner cartouches, plus quieter notes of soft tan, camel, sage and a touch of coral in the flower heads. It is a palette that sits naturally with walnut and oak floors, cream walls, leather, and both traditional and transitional furniture.

Serapi is the trade name given to the finer, more open grade of the Heriz drawing, and it is a design vocabulary that workshops in Pakistan have built a genuine reputation for over the last several decades.
