10' x 10' Square Serapi Heriz Rug | Coral Red Geometric Medallion | New Indian Wool

True squares are hard to find and harder to find well drawn, which is what makes this 10' x 10' piece worth a close look. It is hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, brand new and never used, with a coral red field, a deep navy main border and light blue corner spandrels that give the square format a settled, balanced center. The pile is thick and springy underfoot, the wool takes a clear sheen in raking light, and the selvedges and hand-tied ivory fringe are tight and even. Every rug leaves us with a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is a genuine hand-knotted piece, not machine made and not tufted.

Design and Motifs

The drawing is classic Serapi Heriz: an angular star medallion built in steps rather than curves, anchored by an apricot inner core and a small square rosette at the exact center. Four ivory cartouches with turquoise rosettes sit at the medallion's compass points, and serrated navy and olive palmettes fan out above and below it. The coral field is filled with hooked vines, crescent leaves and small blossoms, with two dark pendant palmettes reaching top and bottom. Light blue spandrels, outlined with a checkerboard step, carry large scrolling vines and coral cartouches with green rosettes. The navy main border alternates diamond stars with serrated red frames against hooked vines and cross flowers, framed inside and out by camel gold guard stripes of small leaf sprigs. Among geometric rugs, this is the pattern collectors keep coming back to, because it reads as bold from across a room and rewards study up close.

Coral Red, Navy and Camel Gold Color Story

The field is a warm coral red leaning toward brick and terracotta, with subtle tonal movement through the pile rather than a flat printed wash. Against it the main border is an inky navy that reads almost black in shadow and resolves into midnight blue in direct light. The corner spandrels are a soft, chalky light blue, a full shade lighter than the border, which keeps the corners from closing in and gives the square proportion some air. Camel gold guard stripes run between field and border, warming the whole edge. Accents come in olive and forest green on the leaves and rosettes, ivory and cream in the cartouches and outlines, and salmon and apricot in the medallion core and the spandrel cartouches, with small touches of soft turquoise and brown scattered through the motifs. It is a warm, saturated palette that sits comfortably with wood floors, leather, brass and stone.

Made in India: Weaving and Quality

This rug was hand-knotted in India, which is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted work is now produced, and the weaving here shows why: straight sides, square corners, a consistent knot count across all 100 square feet, and no drift in the medallion axis despite the demanding square format. The reverse shows a clean, legible grid of knots with the pattern reading crisply through to the back, the mark of a hand-knotted Oriental rug rather than a surface-only construction. The wool is high lanolin and heavily plied, so the pile stands up, resists crushing under furniture legs and cleans easily. Brand new and never walked on, it will only gain luster as the pile settles.
