9'1" x 12'2" Pakistani Oriental Rug | Tabriz All-Over Floral Design | 200 KPSI Fine Wool, Brand New

This is a brand new, never used 9'1" x 12'2" hand-knotted rug woven in Pakistan on a cotton foundation with a fine wool pile at approximately 200 knots per square inch. It is a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug, not machine made and not tufted, and the back in image 6 shows the knot grid clearly enough to count. The proportions land squarely in the most useful room size there is, which is why 9x12 Oriental rugs sell faster than any other format we carry. Pile height is even from end to end, the selvedges are tight, the fringe is full and untrimmed, and there is no wear, no fading and no repair anywhere on the piece. Every rug ships with a certificate of authenticity stating size, material, knot count and origin.

Design and Motifs

The drawing follows the Tabriz tradition of a mirrored all-over floral design rather than a single central medallion. A thin vine skeleton runs the length of the field, carrying large grey blue palmettes, cusped navy cartouche blossoms, cream lotus heads and small rose buds set inside curling serrated leaves. The composition repeats on both axes, so the rug reads the same whichever way the furniture faces, with one centred rosette anchoring the middle of the field, visible in image 11. The wide beige main border alternates a full frontal palmette with a paired arabesque scroll and winged leaf, and it is framed on both sides by ivory guard bands filled with small red and navy lotus buds. Two narrow reciprocal ribbon stripes separate the border from the field and keep the deep red from bleeding visually into the beige. At 200 knots per square inch the weaver had enough resolution to outline each flower in navy and shade the petals through 3 tones, which is what gives the small motifs in images 10 and 12 their crisp edges.

A Deep Red Field Framed in Beige and Cream

The field is a saturated true red, closer to crimson than to brick, and the wool takes light so well that the same ground looks warm and glowing in the raking shots (images 7 and 9) and deeper, almost burgundy, in the flat overhead (image 1). Against it the palette stays soft: cream and pale beige for the border ground, blush and light pink for the rose heads, ivory for the outlines and guard stripes. Navy blue does the structural work, drawing the outline of every palmette and filling the cusped blossoms that punctuate the field, while a muted sage and teal green appears in the leaves and in the small flowerheads scattered along the vines. Grey blue is the surprise in this colorway, used for the large petal fans and for the leaf clusters, and it cools the red down in a way that makes the rug easy to place next to blues, greys and natural woods. There is no abrash or streaking in the ground, and the border corners resolve cleanly on all 4 sides.

Woven in Pakistan to a Fine 200 KPSI Weave

Pakistan is now one of the few places still producing hand-knotted room size rugs at a genuinely fine weave, and this piece is a good example of what those workshops do best: classical city drawing, disciplined knotting and consistent wool. Most commercial production in this size sits well under 150 knots per square inch, so 200 KPSI puts this rug in the upper tier, and the difference shows in the curved vine lines, which stay smooth instead of stepping. The pile is clipped low and level, which is what lets the small detail read from standing height, and the cotton warp and weft give the rug enough body to lie flat without curling at the corners. The fine wool has a dry, slightly lustrous handle that will burnish rather than mat with traffic, and at 9'1" x 12'2" the rug is built to take a full seating group or a dining table with chairs pulled out.
