9' x 12' Tabriz Design Oriental Rug | All Over Red Floral Field | 200 KPSI Fine Wool

This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted room size rug woven in Pakistan to a classic Tabriz drawing: a red field covered edge to edge with fine floral vinework, framed by a deep navy main border. At approximately 200 knots per square inch on a cotton foundation, the fine wool pile holds small flowerheads, buds and curling leaves cleanly, which is what separates a serious hand-knotted piece from a machine made lookalike. At 9' x 12' it is a true room size for a large seating area or a table for 8, and it sits squarely in the most requested of all our 9x12 area rugs. Design and Motifs

The field is a true all over floral design with no central medallion, built from thin scrolling vines that branch into open rosettes, 8 petal star flowers, tulips, carnation heads and small pomegranate style palmettes, with sickle leaves curling between them. The drawing is mirrored on both axes, so the same bouquet repeats in reverse across the center line, a hallmark of the Tabriz workshop layout. A narrow ivory guard stripe of running vine separates the field from the wide navy main border, which carries larger palmettes, shield shaped cartouches and a boteh paisley at each of the 4 corners. Outer ivory and salmon stripes with a repeating tendril close the composition, and the selvage is finished in matching red wool with plain cream cotton fringe at both ends.

A Detailed Look at the Colors

The ground is a warm brick red that leans slightly rose in daylight, deeper and more saturated near the borders where the pile sits against the navy. That main border is a dark indigo navy, almost black in the corners, and the contrast between the two is what gives the rug its formal presence. Inside both areas the florals are drawn in ivory and cream, soft pale blue, muted sage and deeper pine green, oyster grey, blush pink and touches of buttery gold, with fine navy outlining that keeps each flowerhead crisp. The inner and outer guard stripes shade toward salmon and peach, warming the transition from red to navy. Origin and Weaving Quality

This rug was made in Pakistan, where weavers have worked the classic city patterns for generations and where a great deal of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted production now happens. The pattern follows the Tabriz tradition of curved line florals on a cotton foundation, and the weaver has kept the count high enough, roughly 200 knots per square inch, for the vines to stay thin and the flowerheads to stay round rather than blocky. You can see the evidence in the back photograph: tight even rows, a consistent knot count across the width, and hand-tied fringe that is a continuation of the warps rather than something sewn on.
