This is a classic room-size Tabriz: a deep red wool field left largely open, with a single cobalt and navy floral medallion floating dead center and a wide red main border carrying palmettes and ivory shield motifs. It measures 9'10" x 12'8", which puts it squarely in the 10x13 Persian rug range that suits a full living room or a 10 seat dining table with chairs pulled back. The pile is a full 3/8" of wool on a cotton foundation, handles are firm and the surface is even end to end with no thin spots or repair. Design and Motifs

The drawing is fully curvilinear, the Tabriz signature. At the center sits a lobed medallion built in layers: an innermost salmon and green rosette, then a mid blue cartouche gridded with small red blossoms and 4 pointed stars, then a dense navy surround packed with scrolling vines, 8 petal rosettes and tiny ivory buds. Above and below the medallion, twin navy pendants reach out into the open ground, and slender flowering sprays curve away from each side like cut stems set loose on the field. The 4 corners of the inner field are left almost bare apart from small floral bouquets, which is what gives this rug its calm, uncluttered read from across a room. The main border runs a red ground with alternating ivory shield palmettes and salmon boteh forms linked by a continuous vine, fenced by narrow navy and ivory guard stripes with a reciprocal sawtooth at the inner edge. It is a formal composition, but drawn loosely enough to feel woven by hand rather than printed.

A Deep Red Field With Cobalt, Turquoise and Ivory

The field is a rich true red with a faint cool cast, closer to crimson than to brick or rust, and the 3/8" wool takes light so that the open ground shifts a shade lighter or darker as you walk around it. Against that field the medallion reads as two distinct blues: a deep navy for the vine work and a brighter mid cobalt for the inner cartouche, so the center has depth rather than sitting flat. The accents are where the rug gets its life. Turquoise appears in the leaf tips and small cloud bands, soft salmon and rose show up in the palmettes and the medallion core, ivory outlines almost every flower and separates the borders, and there are quiet notes of sage green, mustard and a little violet scattered through the blossoms. The close-up of the reverse shows those same colors unfaded at the knot base, which tells you the surface tone you see is the tone the weaver dyed.

Tabriz sits in the far northwest of Persia and has been the country's most organized weaving city for centuries, working from drawn cartoons on vertical looms with the weave counted in Raj, knots per gereh across the width. That workshop discipline is why Tabriz can hold a curved line: the medallion outlines here stay smooth through their whole arc, the border vine meets itself cleanly at the corners, and the field stays square across nearly 10 feet of width.
