9'10" x 14' Ziegler Oriental Rug | All Over Floral Vine | Coral Red & Ivory, New

This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Ziegler measuring 9'10" x 14', woven in wool on a cotton foundation and finished with a low, even pile that shows the drawing cleanly from any angle. The field is a burned coral red, softened rather than saturated, and it is covered edge to edge with an all over vine that never repeats a heavy medallion, which is exactly why a room-filling piece at this scale stays calm underfoot. It is a true oversize rug, big enough to seat a full sectional or a 10 seat table with all legs on the wool, and one of the more usable pieces among our 10 x 14 oversize rugs. Every rug we ship carries a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is genuinely hand-knotted, along with its size, materials and origin.

Design and Motifs

The Ziegler drawing is built on a slow, wide-spaced all over floral design rather than a central medallion. Ivory vines arc across the field in long ogee curves, and each turn carries a different element: broad serrated acanthus leaves, split palmettes with curled shoulders, small tulip buds, and a gold 8 petal rosette that anchors the center of the lattice as seen in the close-up images. The scale of the leaves is deliberately large, a Sultanabad and Oushak habit, so the pattern reads clearly from standing height instead of dissolving into busy detail. The wide ivory main border is drawn with paired scrolling leaves, cloudband forms and small rosettes, and it is framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes: a boteh chain on the outer edge and a checkerboard of rosettes and blocks on the inner edge, both visible in the corner detail photograph. The 4 corners resolve neatly, with the border pattern turning the angle without a break.

The Burned Coral Red, Beige and Gold Green Palette

Color is the reason this piece works in modern rooms. The ground is a burned coral red, a dusty brick tone with a salmon cast that photographs warmer in daylight and quiets down under lamplight, and the wool carries a gentle abrash so the field breathes instead of sitting flat. Over that ground the vines and blossoms are woven in cream and pale beige, with several leaves dipping into a soft celadon green that cools the red where it could otherwise dominate. Gold and antique ochre run through the palmettes, the central rosette and the leaf veining, adding the warm metallic note that gives the rug its depth. The main border shifts to a light sand beige, almost oatmeal, with the same gold scrollwork and small raspberry red rosettes picking up the field color and carrying it out to the coral selvage. There is no black and no hard navy anywhere, which keeps the whole rug in the muted, faded-by-design register that Ziegler weaving is known for.

Ziegler Weaving in Pakistan

Ziegler is a design tradition rather than a town: a 19th century commercial house adapted village Sultanabad drawing for export, opening up the spacing and softening the palette, and the best modern interpretations of that style are now woven in Pakistan by workshops around Lahore and Peshawar. This is a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug, knotted row by row on a cotton warp and weft, with hand-plied wool that has been clipped low enough to hold the fine outlines of the vine work. The weave is regular across the full 14 foot length, the selvages are hand-wrapped in coral wool, and the fringe is a continuation of the warp rather than an added fringe, all of which you can see in the corner and back-tag photographs. It arrives in perfect condition, never laid in a home, ready for decades of daily use.
