This is a large, formal, room-filling piece in perfect never used condition, hand-knotted in Pakistan with a fine wool pile on a cotton foundation. At 9'2" x 12'4" it covers a full seating group or a 10 seat table with room to walk, which is why it sits squarely in the most requested of all 9x12 Oriental rugs. The pile has never been walked on, the 3/8" wool still stands straight, and the selvedges and cotton fringe are untouched. Design and Motifs

The field carries a balanced all-over floral design rather than a central medallion, so the pattern repeats cleanly no matter where furniture lands on it. Split palmettes, serrated leaves and curled cloud bands travel along thin scrolling vines, with small diamond cartouches and 8 petal rosettes dropped in at regular intervals to break the rhythm. The drawing is symmetrical on both axes, and the corners resolve properly, which is the first thing to check on an all-over layout. Three bands make up the surround: a wide tan main border filled with shield-shaped flower heads and leafy arabesques, flanked by blue grey guard stripes, then a narrow outer meander of tiny repeating buds that frames the whole rug.

A Crimson Red Field Framed in Tan Brown

The ground is a deep crimson red with a slight blue undertone, closer to a true ruby than to a brick or rust red, and the fine wool takes the dye with a soft sheen that shifts lighter or darker depending on which way you view the pile. Against it the motifs are drawn in ivory and cream, warm tan, soft rose, sage green and a muted blue grey, with near-black navy outlines that keep every flower crisp. The main border steps down to a quiet tan brown, almost camel, which cools the red and lets the border cartouches in ivory, wine and charcoal read clearly. The fringe and outer edge finish in natural ivory cotton and a thin line of red selvedge.

Pakistani Weaving and Knot Quality

Pakistan's workshop weavers are among the best in the world at fine floral city drawing, and this rug shows why: the back is tight and even, the knot rows are regular from end to end, and the vines hold their curve without the stair-stepping you see in coarser goods. The detail photograph of the reverse, taken beside a ruler, lets you count the knot density for yourself and see the clean cotton warps that give the rug its flat, stable lie. A 3/8" clipped wool pile is the right height for this kind of small-scale pattern, short enough to hold the outlines sharp and dense enough to take decades of traffic in a living room or dining room.
