9'9" x 13' Persian Tabriz Rug | Ivory All-Over Floral Field | Wool & Silk Pile, 2000s

A 2000's Persian Tabriz in the light palette that Tabriz workshops reserve for their most decorative room-size pieces: an ivory ground, a pale celadon border, and floral drawing picked out in rose, blue and olive. The pile is wool with silk worked through the outlines and highlights, knotted on a cotton foundation, and the pile is full and even across all 117" x 156", with the original hand-tied fringe intact at both ends. At 9'9" x 13" it belongs to the standard 10x13 Persian rug class, which is the size most American living rooms and 8 seat dining tables are actually shopping for. Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the weaver ran a continuous all-over floral lattice of thin curving vines across the whole field, and hung large blossoms at every intersection: radiating sunburst rosettes with serrated petals, round lotus rosettes with layered petal rings, and tall shield palmettes. Between them sit small buds, split leaves and tiny 5 petal flowers that keep the ivory ground from ever reading empty. The drawing is mirrored across both axes, so the 4 corners repeat the same quartered blossom and the composition stays balanced at any viewing angle. A wide main border carries a meandering vine with alternating palmettes and cloud-scroll paisleys, framed by several narrow guard stripes of running flower heads, and a final outer stripe of zigzag leaf tips reading against camel.

The Ivory, Celadon and Rose Palette

The field is an unbroken warm ivory, closer to fresh cream than to white, which is why the silk highlights catch light so plainly when you walk past. Against it the blossoms are built in layers: dusty rose and salmon petals, soft sky blue and slate blue outlining, olive and moss green leaves, and camel to old gold centers, with occasional deep navy dots at the very heart of a flower. The vine lines themselves are drawn in a muted mauve brown rather than black, which softens the whole field. The main border shifts to a pale celadon green that reads almost mint in daylight, with the same rose and blue vocabulary repeated at smaller scale, and the guard stripes add a thin line of true red that keeps the pale tones from going flat.

Tabriz Weaving and Quality

Tabriz sits in the northwest corner of Persia and has been the country's most organized weaving city for centuries, working from paper cartoons on vertical looms with a designer, a master weaver and a team on the bench. Fineness there is counted in Raj, the number of knots across a gereh of about 2.75 in, and the discipline of that system is what lets a Tabriz workshop draw a curved vine or a serrated petal edge cleanly instead of stepping it. You can see the result in the detail photos: the leaf tips stay sharp, the outlines are a single knot wide, and the silk sits exactly where the cartoon called for it. The wool is dense and evenly clipped, the selvedges are tight, and the back shows a regular, disciplined knot line across the full 9'9" x 13'.
