10'1" x 12'7" Persian Tabriz Rug | All Over Floral Design | Ivory Border, Excellent Condition

This is a full room size Persian Tabriz measuring 10'1" x 12'7", hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with a dense 3/8" wool pile. There is no central medallion here, which is the point of it: the weaver committed to an uninterrupted all over floral field, and the drawing carries from selvedge to selvedge without a single lazy repeat. The pile is even from end to end, the selvedges are tight and the ivory fringe is intact, all of which puts the rug in excellent condition. At this footprint it sits comfortably under a 10 seat dining table or floats a large seating group, and it belongs in the group of 10x13 Persian rugs that most American living rooms are actually scaled for. Design and Motifs

The field is built on a lattice of thin scrolling vines that carry alternating rows of large fan palmettes, cusped shield palmettes and open rosettes, with long serrated leaves swinging between them and small four petal blossoms filling the gaps. Look closely at the upper third and you will find small vase and cypress forms tucked into the vinework, a classic touch in all over floral Persian rugs that rewards anyone who actually studies the floor. The main border runs a stately procession of curling acanthus leaves and paired palmettes on ivory, flanked on both sides by teal green guard stripes carrying a running vine, then a fine reciprocal outer stripe in red. Corner resolution is clean: the border motifs turn the 4 corners properly rather than being cut off mid flower, which is the mark of a drawn cartoon rather than a copied one.

A Deep Madder Red Field Framed in Ivory and Teal

The ground is a deep madder red with a slight brick warmth to it, saturated enough to read as a true anchor color in a room rather than a pink or an orange. Against that red the palmettes come forward in soft gold, apricot and salmon, with pale celadon and ice blue blossoms that give the surface its lift, and darker navy and forest tones that hold the drawing together so the pattern never turns busy. Brown and olive leaves supply the middle value that ties the warm and cool families to each other. The main border is a clean ivory, almost cream in the photographs, and the two teal green guard stripes on either side of it act like a cool frame around all that warmth, which is exactly why the rug reads as balanced rather than red heavy.
