10'3" x 13'6" Oushak Design Rug | Neutral Beige & Pale Sage Gray | New, Hand-Knotted in India

This is the quietest register the Oushak vocabulary is capable of, drawn at room scale. The field is an ivory beige that carries almost no contrast, the wide border sits a few shades cooler in pale sage gray, and the whole drawing stays deliberately soft so the rug reads as texture and light rather than as pattern. It is hand-knotted, new and never walked on, with a cotton foundation and a soft wool pile whose low, even nap you can see in the rolled and close-up photographs. Design and Motifs

The field runs as a continuous all-over composition with no central medallion. Slender vine lines climb the length of the rug and link small 8 petal rosettes, trefoil leaves and stepped diamond cartouches, with a scatter of tiny gray blossoms filling the ground between them. A few small sage diamond accents interrupt the repeat, each holding a single rosette at its center, as seen in the field close-up. The wide border is the strongest drawing in the piece: large ivory palmettes and curling serrated leaves laid on the sage gray ground, separated by upright bud stems, framed inside narrow plain guard stripes. The corners are resolved rather than cut off, and the border pattern turns cleanly at all 4 corners. Like the best modern and contemporary rugs, the drawing is traditional in structure but pared back in weight so it sits easily under current furniture.

A Palette of Beige and Sage Gray

Two colors do all the work here. The field is a warm ivory beige, closer to unbleached wool than to white, with subtle horizontal variation across the width where the wool takes the dye slightly differently from one batch to the next. The motifs on that field are picked out in a soft dove and pale sage gray, just dark enough to read from standing height and no darker. The border reverses the relationship: a cool sage gray ground with the palmettes and leaves drawn in the same ivory as the field, so the rug frames itself without ever going dark.
