10' x 13' Modern Transitional Wool Rug | Navy Blue & Gold All Over Rosette Field | Made in India
This is a big, quiet, confident room rug: a deep navy field carrying a strict lattice of ivory and sage rosettes, wrapped in a wide gold border that lifts the whole piece off the floor. It is hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation, brand new and never walked on, and at 10' x 13' it covers a full seating group or a 10 seat dining table with the chairs pulled out. The drawing borrows from the classical Chinese Peking vocabulary, which is why it reads as an Oriental rug rather than a trend piece, while the flat gold and near black blue keep it firmly in modern and contemporary territory. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is genuinely hand-knotted, with the size, materials and origin recorded.
Please Note About the Photographs:
A few soft fold lines and shadows appear in the showroom photos. Those are creases from rolled and stacked storage, not wear, not fading and not damage. They relax within days once the rug is laid flat, and every rug is professionally steamed and pressed before it leaves us.
Design and Motifs
The field is a disciplined all over pattern built from two alternating elements: a large 8 petal rosette set inside a ring of curling leaf brackets, and a small plain disc with a diamond center that fills the gaps between them. The rows offset slightly, so the eye reads diagonals as well as straight lines across the 13' length, and the repeat never feels mechanical because the ivory, sage and pale blue wools shift tone from knot to knot. The wide gold border is the drama: long scrolling vines, curved bat forms, stylized blossoms and cloud bands that step in and out along the inner edge like scalloped lotus lappets. A narrow navy guard band at the outer edge and a fine serrated line at the inner edge close the composition without adding clutter. The absence of a central medallion is the reason this rug sits so easily under furniture, since nothing important is lost when a sofa or a table lands on it.
Navy Blue Ground and Deep Gold Border
The ground is an inky indigo navy that goes almost black in low light and opens up to a clear midnight blue under a lamp or in daylight, a shift you can see plainly between the overhead shots and the close detail photographs. Against it, the rosettes are drawn in three values: a soft dove sage for the leaf brackets, a warm ivory for the petals, and a pale yellow cream for the small discs, so the pattern glows rather than shouts. The border swings the temperature the other way, a saffron gold with visible abrash that runs from butter to apricot along its length, accented with olive green cloud forms, slate blue leaves, a blush pink blossom here and there, and near black outlines that give the scrollwork its bite. Blue and gold is the easiest pairing in the room for warm woods, brass and antique bronze, and it works just as well as the single anchoring color in a cool grey or off white interior.
Woven in India: Weaving Town Quality and Handle
India is where most of the world's good contemporary hand-knotted work is made today, and we say that without hedging. The weaving belt around Bhadohi and Mirzapur supplies the looms, the hand spun wool and the master weavers who still tie every knot by hand on a cotton warp, and the standard at the top of that market now matches anything being produced anywhere. You can see it in the photographs of the reverse and the folded corner: an even, tightly packed back, straight rows, clean color boundaries where the gold meets the navy, and no mechanical uniformity in the pile. The wool is dense with a lustrous finish that catches light differently as you walk across it, and a rug of this weight will take decades of traffic in a busy household. If you are shopping the full run of 10x13 rugs, this one is the piece for a buyer who wants scale and pattern without a formal medallion in the middle of the room.
