This is a brand new, never used Jaipur rug from India, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation and drawn from a classical antique pattern rather than a modern one. At 10' x 14' it is a full room piece, one of the most useful of all 10 x 14 area rugs because it seats a large sofa group or a 10 seat table with margin to spare. What sets it apart is the palette: instead of the usual red or navy ground, the weavers laid the whole floral system over a soft light blue, then wrapped it in a wide ivory border. Design and Motifs

The field carries a balanced all over floral design with no central medallion, so the pattern repeats symmetrically and reads the same from either end of the room. Large round rosettes with 8 and 10 petal centers anchor the repeat, linked by thin curling vines that carry small 4 and 5 petal blossoms, tulip buds and long serrated acanthus leaves that fan out like feathers. Split palmettes sit at the vertical axis of each repeat, drawn in gold with dark navy shading at the core. The border system is three deep: a wide ivory main border of connected palmettes and vine, a narrow brown guard band of small florals, and an outer light blue band of stylized flowerheads that ties back to the field color. Corner drawing in the ivory border is resolved cleanly, with a full palmette turning each of the 4 corners rather than a cut motif.

A Soft Light Blue Ground Under Gold, Rust and Green

The ground is a muted light blue with a slight green cast, closer to soft seafoam than to a bright sky blue, and it is quiet enough to sit under warm furniture without fighting it. Over that ground the drawing runs warm: antique gold and saffron in the big leaves and palmettes, terracotta and rust in the flowerheads, soft olive and sage green in the leaf shading, dusty rose and salmon in the smaller blossoms, and small points of deep burgundy and near black used as outline to give each motif its edge. The main border shifts to a creamy ivory, almost oatmeal, which lifts the blue and keeps the whole rug light.
