10' x 15' Persian Wool Rug | Red Field with Navy Star Medallion | Excellent Condition

This is a full 150 square feet of hand-knotted Persian floral weaving, a true room-size piece drawn around a single navy star medallion on a deep cherry red field. The wool pile stands a solid 3/8", the drawing is workshop quality rather than village shorthand, and the whole surface is worked in tiny flowering sprays rather than empty ground, which is what gives a rug this large its depth from across a room. It sits naturally in the group of oversize Persian rugs that anchor a long living room or a dining table with all the chairs pulled out. Condition is excellent, with even pile and clean, intact borders throughout. Every rug we sell ships with our certificate of authenticity confirming it is a genuine hand-knotted Persian rug.

Please Note About the Photographs:

The full overhead photograph reads brighter and more magenta than the rug actually is. The close-up images of the medallion, the field and the border show the true color: a deeper cherry red with indigo navy, not a hot pink. Please judge the color from the detail shots.

Design and Motifs

The center holds a many-lobed star medallion in indigo navy, edged with teal and ivory, with a salmon apricot core filled by a small rosette and curling arabesques. Rose pink and blue flower heads ring the medallion in tight rows, and matching pendants run off the top and bottom axis, each one a small navy cartouche outlined in ivory with a pink rose inside. Around them the red field is covered with flowering sprays, feathered leaves, gold and blue rosettes, small vases and pairs of birds perched among the vines, all drawn at a scale that keeps the 15' length busy from end to end. The corner spandrels repeat the medallion palette in blue and teal. Three border systems frame the field: a wide navy main border carrying oversized pink roses, blue palmettes and green leaf scrolls, an ivory guard stripe with a fine diamond lattice, and narrow vine stripes on either side that stop the navy from going flat against the red.

The Cherry Red and Navy Blue Palette

The field is a clear cherry red leaning slightly toward raspberry, a saturated tone that photographs bright but reads warm and deep in normal room light, and it is the reason this piece belongs with red and burgundy Persian rugs rather than anything muted. Against it the main border and the medallion ground are almost black indigo navy, which is what makes the smaller colors pop: rose pink and deep raspberry flower heads, a soft salmon apricot in the medallion core, sky blue and cobalt in the leaves and palmettes, sea green and teal in the medallion edging, saffron gold in the small rosettes, and chalk ivory outlining the cartouches and the lattice guard stripe. The close-up of the border pile shows how the wool takes light, the pinks and blues shifting a full shade as you walk around the rug. The overall effect is jewel-toned and formal, red and navy doing the structural work while eight or nine secondary colors carry the detail.

Persian Origin and Weaving Quality

This rug was hand-knotted in Persia on a cotton foundation with a wool pile, one knot at a time on an upright loom, and the back photograph with the ruler laid across it shows exactly what that means: straight, even rows of knots, tight and regular across the width, with no slack or drift in the weave. That evenness over a 15' length is the mark of an established workshop loom and a weaver who kept tension for months on end. The curved drawing of the medallion, the symmetry of the paired pendants and the way the corner spandrels resolve cleanly into the border all come from a paper cartoon rather than memory, which is the difference between a town workshop piece and a tribal one. The 3/8" pile has been clipped to an even height so the fine detail of the floral field reads clearly, and the selvedges and both ends are sound, so this is a rug meant to be walked on for decades rather than protected.
