12' x 17'9" Oversize Ziegler Rug | Wheat Brown All Over Floral | Hand-Knotted Wool

This is a true palace piece: 12 feet wide and close to 18 feet long, hand-knotted in wool on a cotton foundation by Peshawar weavers working in the Ziegler tradition. The drawing is an unbroken all over floral lattice of large curling leaves, palmettes and small rosettes, set in a warm wheat and tan palette that stays quiet across a very large floor. It is new and never used, with a 5/16" pile that still has its full body and a soft matte sheen. Because it belongs to the oversize 12x18 rug class, it is one of the few sizes that can hold a great room, a long dining room or an open plan living space without leaving bare floor at the edges. Design and Motifs

The field is a classic Ziegler all over floral design, built from a loose vine system rather than a dominant medallion. Oversized serrated acanthus leaves sweep diagonally across the ground, linked by thin scrolling stems that open into palmettes, tulip heads and small 4 petal rosettes. A single small rosette sits at the center point, drawn no larger than the repeating motifs around it, so the eye reads the whole surface as one continuous garden instead of stopping in the middle. The wide main border carries alternating leaf forms and lotus blossoms, outlined in fine red, and is framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes of 4 petal flowers and paired buds. Corners are resolved cleanly, with the border pattern turning rather than colliding, which is the mark of a properly cartooned piece. The scale of the drawing is deliberately large, a choice that keeps a rug of this length legible from standing height.

A Wheat Brown and Tan Palette

The ground is a pale wheat brown that shifts between straw and soft camel depending on where the light falls, with clear abrash bands running the width of the rug where the wool takes the dye slightly differently. The main border steps up to a deeper tan brown, giving the piece a defined frame without a hard contrast line. Inside that neutral structure the weavers worked a restrained set of accents: fine brick red outlines on the leaves and blossoms, muted sage green in the smaller leaf forms, a dusty lavender grey shading through the large leaves, and ivory highlights on the border flowers. Nothing shouts. The overall effect is a warm, sun-faded neutral that sits comfortably with oak, walnut, linen and stone, and it is far easier to live with under large furniture than a high contrast red and navy scheme.
