6'6" x 9'5" Persian Tabriz Rug | All Over Geometric Panel Design | Navy and Ivory | Excellent Condition

This 6'6" x 9'5" Persian Tabriz rug is a disciplined workshop piece: a hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation, clipped short at roughly 3/8" so that every outline in the drawing stays crisp. The field is so dark that it reads almost black until light hits it and the navy comes forward, which is exactly what makes the ivory, rose and sage green panels sit up the way they do. At 78" by 113" it covers a standard seating group without crowding the walls, and it sits squarely in the practical 7x10 class that most American living rooms are built around. Condition is excellent, the handle is firm and even end to end, and the rug ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming origin, materials and hand-knotted construction.

Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. Instead the weaver filled the field with a staggered lattice of stepped diamond panels, each one holding an 8 petal rosette or a flat starburst flower, linked by ivory and burgundy outlines that chain the whole surface together. Between the panels sit small rust-orange fretwork squares drawn in a hooked Greek key figure, along with white four-blossom clusters, split-leaf sprays and tiny arrow-tipped stems. The main border is the best part of the drawing: a run of square cartouche panels, each framing a pale sage octagonal rosette with a ruby center, separated by hooked brackets and scrolling arms. Inner and outer guard stripes carry a tight repeat of red and blue wheel rosettes on ivory, which is what visually lifts the border away from the dark field. The whole composition belongs to the repeat-panel family of geometric Persian rugs, angular in its skeleton but floral in every detail it fills.

Color: Near-Black Navy Under Ivory and Garden Pastels

The ground is an extremely deep indigo navy that the spec sheet records as black, and in a shaded room that is how it behaves. Laid in daylight the blue is unmistakable, with a faint aubergine warmth where the burgundy outlines run close. Against it the weaver worked a soft spread of pastels: powdery rose and blush pink in the larger panels, pale sky blue and a duck-egg teal in the alternating diamonds, sage and olive green in the rosette centers, and chalk white in the small blossom clusters. The accents are rust orange and tomato red, used sparingly in the fretwork squares so the eye keeps moving across the field. Borders shift the balance completely, running on an ivory to light beige ground with brick red and dark navy drawing, which frames the dark center and keeps a 9'5" length from feeling heavy. It is a cool-leaning palette overall, easy with grey, charcoal, walnut and natural oak, and forgiving in rooms that get strong afternoon sun.

Tabriz: The Benchmark Weaving City of Northwest Persia

Tabriz sits in the northwest corner of Persia and has been the trade and design capital of Persian weaving for centuries, the city where cartoons are drawn to scale and weavers are expected to follow the line exactly. Quality there is measured in Raj, the count of knots across a gereh of about 2.75 inches, and the discipline of that system shows in work like this: panel after panel repeating at the same width, borders turning the corners cleanly, outlines holding at one knot wide. Tabriz wool is tough and slightly dry-handled, spun for durability rather than glitter, and over a cotton warp and weft it produces a flat, stable rug that lies down properly and takes traffic for decades. Buyers shopping the 7x10 Persian rugs group will recognize this as the sturdy, formal end of that size: enough pattern to anchor a room, enough structure to stay in it.
