7'11" x 9'10" Indian Oriental Rug | Traditional Beige & Sage Floral Medallion | Brand New
This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Oriental rug made in India, woven in the classic medallion and spandrel format and finished in a soft, low-contrast palette that behaves like a much older piece. The wool pile is dense and smooth under the hand, the cotton foundation lies dead flat, and the drawing stays clean through the medallion lobes and the long serrated leaves of the main border. At 7'11" x 9'10" it sits squarely in the most useful category we sell, which makes it an easy substitute for buyers shopping 8x10 hand-knotted rugs for a living room or dining room. Every rug we ship travels with a certificate of authenticity documenting origin, materials and construction.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The field photographs warmer than it reads in a room. Under the studio lights the ground takes on an apricot or salmon cast, while in daylight it settles into a soft sand beige with only a faint pink warmth. The sage green spandrels, ivory medallion and madder red outlines are rendered accurately in the close-up images, so use those shots as your color reference.
Design and Motifs
The center carries an 8 petal rosette medallion built from ivory lobes around a pale sage core, with a single slender pendant reaching into the field at the top and the bottom. Around it runs a cusped, stepped outline that frames the open field like an interior panel, drawn in madder red with a fine dark brown shadow line, and the 4 corners repeat the same shape as sage green spandrels filled with curling vine and palmettes. The field between those elements is not empty: small rosettes, cloud band fragments, tulip heads and feathery leaves float across it in rust, gold and pale pink, spaced loosely so the beige ground stays dominant. The main border is the showpiece, a procession of large dark brown serrated leaves alternating with red and pink palmettes on a sage ground, flanked by two reciprocal minor stripes of rosettes and small S hooks and an outer guard of golden yellow vinework.
A Soft Neutral Palette of Beige, Sage and Rust
The ground is a warm sand beige that shifts gently from panel to panel, lighter and almost ivory near the medallion, deeper and faintly apricot toward the border, which is exactly the subtle movement you want in a neutral rug of this scale. Against it the designer worked a muted sage green for the spandrels and the main border field, a dusty madder red for the outlines and small blossoms, a soft golden yellow for the vine scrolls, and a dark coffee brown that reads nearly black in the serrated leaves and reciprocal guard stripes. Touches of pale pink and salmon appear in the palmette centers, and a flicker of clear turquoise shows in one or two tiny flower heads, a detail visible only up close. Nothing shouts, so the rug sits comfortably with oak, walnut, linen and stone, and it belongs with the softest beige and ivory Oriental rugs in our inventory.
Made in India: Where Contemporary Hand-Knotting Lives Now
India is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted work is made today, and this rug shows why. The weavers worked on a cotton warp and weft with a wool pile, keeping the rows tight and the selvages straight across nearly 10 feet of length, then gave the finished rug a soft wash that knocks the sheen back and lets the natural variation in the hand-spun wool read as depth rather than streaking. The corner and back photographs show an even, well seated weave with no slubs or pulled rows, and the pile is clipped low enough to hold the fine brown outlines that carry the border drawing. It is a new rug that was built to be used, and in a 7'11" x 9'10" footprint it will take a dining table with chairs pulled out or anchor a full seating group without any part of the design disappearing under furniture.
