This 8'1" x 11'7" Persian Tabriz rug is a pastel workshop piece woven in the 2000's and never put on a floor. The pile is wool with silk worked through the drawing, knotted at roughly 500 knots per square inch on a cotton foundation, which is why the flowers hold their shape at the size of a fingernail. Laid out, it reads as one quiet ivory field with a single 8 petal rosette medallion at center, a peach main border, and pale guard stripes that step the eye in from the edge. The wool is dense and low cut, the handle is firm, and the silk catches light differently depending on where you stand. A certificate of authenticity ships with the rug.

Design and Motifs

The layout is classic curvilinear Tabriz: a round central medallion built in concentric rings of blossoms and serrated leaves, capped top and bottom with a crested pendant, and answered by 4 corner spandrels that repeat the same vocabulary in quarter form. Between them the open field is filled with thin scrolling vines, split palmettes, cypress sprays and small detached flower heads placed so no two quadrants feel crowded. The main border carries alternating cartouche style rosettes on a peach ground, separated by leafy vine work, and is fenced on both sides by narrow striped guards drawn with tiny buds. The corner photo shows how cleanly the border turns, with the pattern resolving instead of being cut, which is the mark of a cartoon drawn properly and a weaver who followed it.

A Pastel Palette of Ivory, Peach, Green and Blue

The ground is a soft ivory that leans slightly cream in daylight and pale beige under lamps. Over it the dominant accent is peach, used at full strength in the main border and in the medallion petals, and thinned out to blush and pale salmon in the vine work. Light green appears in the leaves and in the faint sage halos around the palmettes, and light blue shows up in small doses, in the center of little flower heads and in occasional stems, which keeps the warm tones from turning monochrome. Touches of khaki gold, dusty rose and a rare spot of deep red give the detail its outline. There is no navy and no black anywhere, so the whole rug sits light in a room and works with pale walls, oak floors and neutral upholstery rather than fighting them.
