This is a brand new, never used Oushak Chobi woven in Peshawar, hand-knotted in natural wool on a cotton foundation and finished at 8'11" x 11'6". The pile is thick and evenly clipped, the edges are firm, and the drawing is deliberately soft: a quiet slate blue field carrying an all-over arrangement of palmettes and leaf forms, framed by a wide ivory border of bold scrolling cloudbands. Design and Motifs

The field follows the classic Oushak formula of an all over design rather than a single central medallion. Two large octagonal medallion forms sit on the long axis, linked by a slender stem and surrounded by rows of elongated cartouches, broad palmettes, stylized vases and spiky leaf sprays that repeat to all 4 corners. The drawing is angular and generous, with wide spacing between motifs, so the pattern never crowds the field. Three bands make up the frame: a narrow inner guard of small rosettes, a wide ivory main border filled with chevron and herringbone panels that alternate with flowering vine, and a bold outer band of interlocking cloudband scrolls drawn in blue on cream. The corner resolutions, visible in the close photographs, are cleanly turned rather than cut off, which is a good sign of a well drawn cartoon and a disciplined weaver.

A Soft Blue Field with Ivory, Olive and Apricot

The ground is a muted slate blue with a faint grey cast, gently abrashed so it shifts a shade lighter and darker as the light moves across the pile. Against it the motifs are drawn mostly in ivory and warm cream, with outlines in a soft apricot that keeps the whole rug from reading cold. Olive and sage green appear in the chevron panels of the main border and in scattered leaves throughout the field, while beige and tan fill the larger palmettes and give the pattern its depth. The outer guard returns to the same blue as the field, closing the composition, and the ivory fringe finishes it cleanly. Peshawar Weaving and the Oushak Tradition
