8'2" x 11'5" Pakistani Oriental Rug | Kashan All Over Floral Design | Black Field, Brand New
This 8'2" x 11'5" hand-knotted Oriental rug was woven in Pakistan in fine natural wool on a cotton foundation, and it is brand new, never used, with full pile from selvage to selvage. The drawing follows the classical Kashan repertoire, a dense garden of palmettes and rosettes on a near-black field, contained by a generous ivory main border. It is a true room size piece that covers a 9x12 footprint of floor without the bulk, and it reads as both formal and quiet because the black ground absorbs light while the flowers sit on top of it. Every rug we ship carries a certificate of authenticity confirming that it is hand-knotted, along with its measurements, materials and origin.
Design and Motifs
There is no medallion here. The weaver committed to a true all over floral design, a repeating lattice of curved vines that links large lotus palmettes, 8 petal rosettes, serrated saz leaves and small budding sprays across the entire field. Look at the top and bottom of the field and you will find the design mirrored, with paired cypress-like palmette clusters anchoring each end, a detail that tells you the cartoon was drawn for this exact size rather than cropped from a larger one. The main border carries alternating large rosettes and shield-shaped palmettes on ivory, framed on both sides by narrow floral meander guard stripes in rust and olive. The corners resolve cleanly, the vines meet where they should, and the reciprocal outer stripe finishes the rug against a dark outer edge.
The Black Field and Its Ivory, Rust and Olive Palette
Black is the main color, and in the close photographs it shows the slight charcoal variation of hand-spun wool taking dye, which keeps the ground alive instead of flat. Against it the flower heads run through mustard yellow, warm gold, apricot and soft salmon pink, with deeper accents of rust, terracotta and burgundy in the palmette hearts. The vines and leaves are olive green, sometimes shading toward a dry moss tone, which is what stops the field from reading purely as gold on black. The wide main border reverses the scheme entirely: a warm ivory to sand ground carrying the same burgundy, olive and rust drawing, so the border reads light and the field reads dark, and the rug gains an obvious frame. Ivory cotton fringe finishes both ends and picks up the border tone.
Pakistani Weaving Quality in a Room Size 8x11
Pakistan has spent decades building a reputation for hand-knotted work in the classical idiom, and this piece shows why: an even knot count across the full 11'5" length, straight sides, a flat lie with no buckling in the corners, and the crisp outline work you can see on the reverse in the folded-back photograph. The pile is fine natural wool with real body underfoot, dense enough to take traffic in a dining room or a main living space yet soft in the hand. At 8'2" x 11'5" it belongs with the 8x11 area rugs that sit under a full seating group or a 8 seat dining table with chairs pulled back, and it is one of the better-drawn examples of contemporary Oriental rugs we stock in a dark ground.
