8'2" x 9'6" Soltani Ziegler Oriental Rug | All-Over Floral Design | Fine Ghazni Wool

This is a new, never used Soltani piece hand-knotted in Pakistan from fine Ghazni wool, measuring 8'2" x 9'6" and woven on a cotton foundation. The near square proportion is unusual and genuinely useful: it fills a room that a standard 9x12 would overwhelm, and it sits well among 8x10 Oriental rugs while reading slightly wider and calmer underfoot. The pile is dense, hand-spun and lustrous, the selvages are tight, and the ivory fringe is the continuation of the warps rather than an applied trim. Design and Motifs

The Soltani drawing is a classic all-over floral design, built on a loose lattice of thin arching vines that carry rows of broad palmettes, serrated leaf fans, 8 petal rosettes and lidded vase forms filled with a tiny lattice of ivory and gold. There is no central medallion, so the eye travels across the field rather than settling in the middle, which is exactly what makes this pattern so forgiving under furniture. Each horizontal row alternates in scale and color so the repeat never feels mechanical. The main border carries large shield and boteh style cartouches spaced between turning vines, framed by narrow reciprocal guard stripes in rust and turquoise, and the 4 corners are resolved cleanly with a matching motif rather than a cut-off repeat, which is the mark of a properly drawn cartoon.

A Neutral Taupe Field Lit With Turquoise and Rust

The ground is a soft taupe greige that shifts toward warm camel and mushroom brown as the light moves, with gentle horizontal abrash banding visible in the close-up photographs, the natural signature of hand-spun wool dyed in small batches. Against that quiet base the palette is anything but timid: bright turquoise and teal in the palmette centers, deep crimson and oxblood red in the flower heads, burnt orange and copper in the leaf fans, navy and near-black in the outlines, olive green in the foliage, and chalky ivory and cream picking out highlights. The border repeats the same family with more rust and terracotta, so the frame warms the whole piece. The overall read from across a room is neutral and earthy, while up close the rug is full of color, which is why this palette works over both pale oak and dark walnut floors.
