8'5" x 10'10" Oushak Rug | Beige & Gold All-Over Floral | New Wool Pile, Made in Pakistan

This rug measures 8'5" x 10'10", a genuine room size that sits just past a standard 8x10 and lands squarely in the 8x11 Oriental rugs bracket most seating groups actually need. It is hand-knotted in Pakistan, wool pile on a cotton foundation, drawn in the Oushak idiom: an open gold-beige field, broad softly drawn palmettes, and a wide taupe-brown border. The wool has been given a gentle wash that pulls the shine off new fleece and leaves the palette looking already lived with, which is why the whole rug reads quiet rather than new. It is in perfect, never-used condition and ships with a certificate of authenticity.

Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The field carries an all-over floral design built from large spiky palmettes with pointed, deeply serrated petals, each one centered on an oval cartouche that holds a small rosette or a single leaf. Thin vine scrolls arc between them and link the repeat into a loose lattice, so the pattern reads as 4 columns of blossoms running the length of the rug rather than a rigid grid. Smaller cream and pale apricot palmettes fill the spaces between the heavier burgundy and gold ones, and lanceolate leaves lean off the stems at every junction. The border scheme is a triple arrangement: a broad main band of alternating serrated rosettes and leaf sprays, flanked by narrow guard stripes of running scrolls in green and cream, with a plain beige outer edge that frames the whole thing. The drawing is bold and large in scale, the kind of pattern that still reads from across a room once furniture covers part of the field.

Color: Gold-Beige Field, Taupe Border, Green and Burgundy Accents

The field is a warm gold-beige, closer to honey than to white, with a soft horizontal variation in tone across the width that comes from the hand-dyed wool and gives the open ground real depth. Against it the palmettes work in 3 registers: deep burgundy and aubergine for the largest blossoms, a rich caramel gold for the second tier, and ghost-pale cream and blush apricot for the quietest forms, which almost disappear into the ground from a distance. Sage and olive green carry the leaves and the scrolling guard stripes, the only cool note in an otherwise warm palette. The main border shifts to a smoky taupe-brown with mushroom and coffee undertones, and the motifs inside it come forward in coral, ivory and the same green. Outlines throughout are drawn in a dark plum brown rather than black, which keeps the edges soft. If your scheme runs to warm neutrals, this belongs with the beige and ivory rugs rather than with anything high contrast.

Origin, Weaving Town and Quality

Oushak is a design language out of western Anatolia, known for open fields, large-scale palmettes and softened, washed-out color. This piece is a modern hand-knotted interpretation woven in Pakistan, where much of the world's serious decorative hand-knotting now happens and where the Oushak and Ziegler repertoire is woven to a consistently good standard. The back, visible in the folded corner, shows an even grid of knots with straight rows, no bowing and a tidy cotton foundation, and the selvages are wrapped by hand with the ivory fringe knotted off flat. The wool is good highland fleece, dense enough underfoot to take a dining chair and plush enough to show the sculpted pile seen in the close-up views. If you are weighing this kind of work against city weaving from Persia, our guide on what separates a Persian from an Oriental rug sets out exactly where the differences lie. What you get here is a large, decorative, perfectly clean 8'5" x 10'10" floor piece with no restoration history and no wear to manage.

This piece is the only one of it, so the things worth knowing about it are particular to it. If you want to talk through the size, the colour in your own light, or the weave, speak to someone here first.
