8' x 10' Ziegler Oriental Rug | Chobi Peshawar All-Over Design | Natural Ghazni Wool, Brand New

Brand new and never walked on, this 8' x 10' Ziegler is a Chobi Peshawar weaving in hand-spun Ghazni wool on a cotton foundation, finished with the soft antique wash that gives the gold field its faded, long-settled look. The drawing is a disciplined all-over repeat rather than a single centred medallion, so the rug reads calm and architectural from across a room and turns detailed the moment you stand over it. It lands in the most useful part of the 8x10 Oriental rugs range, the size that holds a sofa and two chairs or a dining table with the chairs pulled out. It ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming the hand-knotted construction, the wool content and the origin.

Design and Motifs

The field carries an all-over repeat of large quatrefoil medallions, each one drawn as a 4 lobe clover with tightly curling vine tips at the shoulders and a pale palmette set at every lobe. Between them runs a lattice of beaded circles, and inside each circle sits a small equal-armed cross floret, some in gold, some in ivory on a dark ground. Behind that framework a second, quieter layer of olive leaves and scrolling vine fills the open ground, so nothing in the field is truly empty. The border system is 3 bands: a wide main band of big olive and gold rosettes joined by angular vine stems, flanked by narrow guard stripes of small star flowers and rosette chains picked out in red. Corners are resolved cleanly, the medallions run off the edge under the border in true repeat fashion, and the pile is clipped low so every outline stays crisp. A dark brown selvage and natural ivory fringe close the ends.

A Palette of Honey Gold, Olive and Deep Brown

The ground moves from honey gold and warm camel at one end toward pale champagne and oatmeal at the other, a gentle abrash that comes from hand-spun yarn taking natural dye at slightly different rates. Against it the quatrefoil medallions are a deep chocolate brown with enough depth to read as near black in low evening light, which is exactly what gives the rug its graphic punch. Olive and sage green carry the underlying leafwork and the large border rosettes, while ivory and soft cream outline the beaded circles and the palmette hearts. Small madder red accents appear as hairline rings around the roundels and as star flowers in the guard stripes, just enough warmth to tie the scheme together. The overall effect is neutral but not flat: it sits easily with walnut and oak furniture, brass and antique bronze, linen upholstery, and either cream or charcoal walls.

Woven in Peshawar, Pakistan

Peshawar is the centre of the Chobi and Ziegler trade, and its best workshops weave to a standard that keeps this a genuine collector-grade Oriental rug rather than a decorative copy. The wool is Ghazni, from highland flocks prized for long staple and natural luster, hand-spun rather than machine-spun so the yarn keeps a living irregularity, then dyed with plant and mineral dyes and knotted by hand on a cotton warp. Turn a corner over and the back shows a tight, even grid with straight knot rows, no pulled lines and a clear reading of the design, which is the honest test of a well-woven piece. After clipping, the rug is given a soft wash that mellows the dyes and raises the silky sheen you can see on the gold border, the reason a new Ziegler like this already looks like a rug that has lived somewhere for years.
