The field is a quiet light blue, unusual in a room-size piece and very hard to dye evenly across 108 inches of width, framed by a wide ivory border that reads almost as a second room. It falls squarely into the most useful of the 9x12 area rug proportions, large enough to carry all the furniture legs in a main seating group. Design and Motifs

The drawing is classic Oushak: a loose all over lattice rather than a single centre medallion, with generous open space between the elements. Four large lobed palmette medallions in camel and cream sit at the shoulders of the field, each filled with small scrolling leaf forms, while rounded octagon rosettes in soft brown anchor the lower quarters. A thin ivory vine ties the whole field together in long diagonals, punctuated by 8 petal rosettes, stepped cruciform stars and the hooked bracket forms that Oushak weavers have used for generations. Both ends close with a scalloped arcade of cloud band forms that pushes into the border, and the main ivory border carries a slow rhythm of split palmettes and curling leaves between narrow guard stripes of running vine. Nothing is crowded, which is exactly why this style sits so easily under modern furniture.

A Light Blue Field With Ivory and Brown

The ground colour is a pale, slightly grey light blue, closer to weathered denim or a clear winter sky than to navy, and it shifts gently between cooler and warmer passages as the light crosses the pile, the natural abrash of hand-dyed wool. Against it the ornament is worked in ivory, chalky cream, warm camel and a soft mushroom brown, with a few motifs carrying a faint apricot blush. The wide border is ivory, its scrollwork outlined in pale taupe and grey brown so the pattern stays legible without adding contrast, and the guard stripes pick up the same muted browns.
