9' x 11'8" Zigler Chobi Rug | Soft Beige Field with Pale Green and Muted Gold | Brand New Hand-Knotted Wool
This is a brand new hand-knotted Chobi Zigler measuring 9' x 11'8", woven in natural wool on a cotton foundation and finished with the soft, washed surface that collectors associate with this weave. The field is a quiet beige carrying a cool sage cast, the drawing is deliberately understated, and the pile has the slightly waxy, light-catching handle of good hand-spun wool. At just under 9 by 12 it covers a full seating group, and among 9x12 rugs this is one of the easier pieces to live with because nothing in the palette competes with furniture or art. Every rug we sell ships with a certificate of authenticity confirming it is genuinely hand-knotted.
Please Note About the Photographs:
The full overhead photograph was shot under cooler studio light and reads greener and greyer than the rug does in person. The close-up and angled photographs are the more accurate reading: a soft beige ground with a light sage cast, warm gold florals and ivory borders. This is a lighting difference, not a difference in the rug.
Design and Motifs
The field carries a loosely spaced all over floral composition rather than a single dominant centerpiece: split palmettes, curling serrated leaves, small cross-shaped blossoms and thin vine scrolls drift across the open ground with plenty of empty space between them. Two lobed, crown-shaped medallions sit on the vertical axis, each filled with a grid of 4 petal florets and finished with a pendant that trails downward in a soft green vine, visible in close-up on the pile detail photograph. The main border is wide and generously drawn, alternating rosettes with paired leaf forms, and it is framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes of repeating trefoils. The corners resolve cleanly without the pattern being chopped, which is a good sign of a weaver working from a well-planned cartoon. Ends are finished with hand-tied ivory fringe and the sides are overcast in matching pale wool.
A Palette of Soft Beige, Pale Green and Muted Gold
The whole rug lives inside a narrow, deliberately faded tonal range. The ground is a soft beige that shifts toward pale sage or oatmeal depending on the light and the direction of the pile, with faint horizontal abrash streaking that proves the wool was dyed in small batches. The florals are drawn in muted gold and honey, warmed slightly at the medallions, while the leaf work is a dusty pale green that never reads as a true saturated color. Ivory and cream carry the border ground and the guard stripes, and a handful of soft taupe and pale brown outlines give the motifs just enough definition to hold their shape from across the room. There is no black, no navy and no hard contrast anywhere, which is exactly why a rug like this works under light oak, linen upholstery and warm white walls. If you are shopping the beige and ivory rugs category, this is the quiet end of it.
Chobi Zigler Weaving from Pakistan
Chobi Zigler is the signature production of the Peshawar weaving workshops, and it has become one of the most recognizable categories of contemporary Oriental rug production. The name comes from the plant-based dyes used on hand-spun wool, and the finished rug is washed to soften the palette into the antique tonality you see here. The weave photograph shows a clean, regular knot grid on the back with the pattern reading clearly through to the reverse, and the fold detail shows the pile standing evenly with no thin spots or corrections. Made in Pakistan and never used, this piece is heavy enough to lie flat immediately and dense enough to take daily traffic without crushing.
