9' x 12'3" Jaipur Oriental Rug | Hereke Floral Design | Midnight Blue & Burgundy | Brand New

This is a brand new, never used hand-knotted Jaipur rug measuring 9' x 12'3", woven in natural wool on a cotton foundation and finished with hand-tied ivory fringe. It is a serious room-size piece: a midnight blue field carrying a Hereke inspired all-over floral drawing, framed by a wide burgundy border and two tan guard stripes. The wool is springy and lustrous, the pile is even edge to edge, and the selvedges are tight and straight, which is what you want to see before a rug this large goes into a main room. A certificate of authenticity ships with every rug we sell, confirming that this is a genuine hand-knotted Oriental rug and not a machine-made reproduction. For buyers shopping 9x12 area rugs, this is the classic footprint that anchors a full seating group with all four furniture legs on the rug.

Design and Motifs

The field is a true all-over floral design rather than a single central medallion. Curling cream arabesque bands sweep across the blue ground in mirrored pairs, opening into large lattice-filled cartouches in salmon and soft gold at the top, center and bottom of the field. Between them the weaver filled every inch with palmettes, serrated leaves, rosettes, tulip forms and thin flowering vines, so the eye keeps finding new drawing the longer you look. The corners are resolved with matching ivory spandrel scrolls that hold the composition square. The main border runs a repeating sequence of large lotus palmettes and split leaves on burgundy, and the flanking guard stripes carry a small rosette and leaf meander on tan, with a narrow dark navy reciprocal trefoil at the very outer edge. It is a formal, balanced Hereke style layout, drawn with enough curvature to read as classical and enough scale to hold up in a big room.

A Midnight Blue Field With Burgundy, Gold and Green

The ground is a deep midnight blue, close to ink in low light and showing a cooler navy cast where daylight hits the pile. Against it the palette is warm: cream and ivory for the scrolling arabesques, soft gold and honey tan in the cartouches and guard borders, dusty salmon and terracotta in the lattice panels, and clear brick reds in the smaller blossoms. Sage and olive greens do the heavy lifting in the leafwork, giving the florals depth instead of letting them flatten into the blue. The main border is a rich burgundy, a shade warmer and softer than the reds inside the field, which separates the two zones cleanly. Abrash is minimal and the tones stay consistent from end to end. Practically speaking, a dark ground of this kind hides traffic and is forgiving in a busy household, while the gold and burgundy keep the rug from feeling heavy. Woven in Jaipur, India

Jaipur, in Rajasthan, is one of the great hand-knotting centers working today, and India is where most of the world's best contemporary hand-knotted rugs are now made. The workshops there weave classical Turkish and Indo floral cartoons on upright looms with hand-spun natural wool, and the standard of drawing on this piece shows it: the curved arabesque lines stay smooth through their arcs, the mirrored halves of the field match, and the border repeat turns the corners properly instead of being cut short. The back photo shows a clear, regular knot grid with well defined color changes, and the handle is firm with a medium pile that has full body. Nothing about this rug has been walked on, sun-faded or repaired. It is simply a new, correctly woven, room-size Oriental rug that should give decades of service and take on a light sheen as the wool polishes underfoot.
