Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic Tabriz drawing: no central medallion, just a continuous lattice of thin brown vines that branch, curl back on themselves and carry palmettes, lotus heads, curling serrated leaves and small rosettes. The layout is mirrored on both axes, so each quarter of the field answers the one across from it, and a single dark rosette sits at the exact center as an anchor point. Scale is handled well, with large palmettes spaced out and the gaps filled by tiny blossoms and leaf tips rather than left empty. The all-over floral design is framed by a taupe main border of alternating rosettes and lotus sprays, set between narrow ivory guard stripes and a fine outer stripe, with the corners resolved properly so the border pattern turns without breaking. Details like the 4 corners matching and the border turning cleanly are the difference between a drawn design and a copied one.

Ivory Ground and the Accent Palette

The ground is a warm ivory, closer to soft cream than white, with a faint golden cast under direct light where the silk catches. Against it the vines run in warm mid brown, and the flowers are picked out in deep maroon, dusty rose and pale pink, with sage and olive green leaves and small touches of slate blue and pale sky blue in the flower centers. Yellow gold outlines a few of the larger palmettes and keeps them from disappearing into the field. The main border shifts to a light taupe or mushroom tone, one step darker than the field, which is what separates border from field without a hard color break. It is a restrained palette overall, mostly neutral with color used in small doses, so the rug reads as a soft cream floor covering from across the room and only reveals the maroon and blue when you stand over it.

The pile has good body, the sides are firmly overcast and the plain cotton fringe is full and untrimmed.
