Design and Motifs

There is no central medallion here. The drawing is a balanced all-over floral composition of thin tendrils and curling vine scrolls that loop around large serrated palmettes, open rosettes and small 5 petal blossoms, with dark curled acanthus leaves anchoring each repeat. Look at the field close-ups and you can see how the pattern mirrors across two axes, so the same rosette and leaf cluster appears rotated around the center, which is exactly how a round field is drawn to avoid a visible top and bottom. Small ivory and white leaf outlines trace the vines, a detail that only survives at a fine knot count. The border system runs 5 bands deep: a taupe main border set with shield-shaped cartouches and framed palmettes, flanked on either side by narrow floral guard stripes and fine outline lines in burgundy and dark brown, then a plain ivory outer edge that carries the eye out to the fringe.

A Soft Ivory Palette With Burgundy and Sage

The field is a warm ivory, closer to cream and clotted butter than to bright white, which is the reason this rug sits comfortably in rooms with beige, oak or pale stone already in place.
