10' x 13' Persian Tabriz Rug | Midnight Blue Signed Wool & Silk | Approx. 500 KPSI, New

This is a new, never used room-size piece that has spent its whole life rolled: the pile still stands up straight, the ivory fringe is untouched, and the weaver's signature sits in the field just above the lower border. The field is left almost entirely open in deep midnight blue, so the eye goes straight to the widely spaced rosettes and the thin vines that link them, which is a drawing decision only a confident workshop makes. At roughly 500 knots per square inch in wool with silk highlights, it reads far finer in person than photographs suggest, and it lands in the most useful footprint we sell, so it sits naturally alongside our other 10x13 Persian rugs. Every rug we ship travels with a certificate of authenticity recording origin, materials and hand-knotted construction.

Design and Motifs

The layout is an all-over floral design built from round palmette rosettes, each one drawn differently: some fan out in feathered olive and gold leaves, others close into tight scalloped discs with a shaded cartouche at the center. Thin ivory and gold vines arc between them in shallow crescents, hung with small starburst flowers, pomegranate buds, sky blue lilies and broad gold leaves that curl at the tip. There is no central medallion and no spandrel, so all 4 corners resolve simply into quarter rosettes and a single leaf spray. The frame runs in 5 bands: a narrow outer vine stripe, a salmon pink guard of linked chain motifs, the broad ivory main border of alternating fan palmettes and blue shaded lily bouquets, a second pink guard, and an inner ivory vine stripe finished at the edge by a navy selvage.

Midnight Blue, Ivory and the Silk Highlights

The field is a true midnight blue that goes close to black in the macro shots and opens up to ink blue under direct light, which is exactly how the best midnight blue Persian rugs behave in a room. Against it the border ground reads ivory with a warm butter gold cast, slightly deeper in the wide main band and paler in the outer stripe. The flowers carry the rest of the palette in small doses: rust and terracotta rosette centers, sage and olive green leaves, salmon pink shading on the palmette petals, sky blue and pale grey on the lilies, and soft yellow gold along the vines. The silk is used only for highlights, on petal edges, leaf veins and the lit side of each palmette, so the pattern lifts and shifts as you walk around it while the wool keeps the color matte and steady.

Woven in Tabriz, Northwest Persia

Tabriz sits in the far northwest of Persia and has been the country's most technical weaving city for centuries, working on a cotton foundation with the Raj system, where knot count is measured across the width of the rug. Commercial Tabriz work runs about 40 Raj; this piece, at approximately 500 knots per square inch, belongs to the fine end where the curved vine and the shaded palmette centers can actually be drawn rather than approximated. The evidence is in the close-ups: the outline around each leaf holds a clean single-knot line, the color changes are gradual instead of stepped, and the pile is clipped low and even so nothing blurs. A signature in the field means a named workshop stood behind the piece, which in Tabriz is the difference between a good rug and a collected one.
