This is a brand new, never used Chobi Ziegler measuring 11'8" x 14'6", hand-knotted in natural organic wool on a cotton foundation and finished at a low, even clip that lets the drawing read clearly from standing height. The field is a quiet greyish brown, the border a broad golden beige, and the whole piece is deliberately calm: no strong medallion, no high contrast, just a slow all over floral rhythm that carries across nearly 15 feet without ever getting busy. At this footprint it covers a full great room or seats a 10 to 12 seat dining table with chairs pulled back, which puts it squarely among the oversize Oriental rugs buyers shop when size is the deciding constraint. Design and Motifs

The field carries a classic all over floral design: a loose lattice of ivory vine scroll that curls back on itself, hung with gold palmettes, 8 petal rosettes and long serrated leaves. Slightly larger crowned palmettes sit on the vertical axis at the center and at both ends of the field, giving the eye an anchor without forming a true medallion. The main border is wide and generous, drawn with linked arabesques and open cartouche shapes filled with flowerheads, and it is framed on both sides by narrow guard stripes of small repeating buds and leaves, visible up close in the corner photographs. Corner resolution is handled cleanly, with the vine turning into each of the 4 corners rather than being cut off. Small red dots punctuate the scrollwork at regular intervals, a detail you only notice from a few feet away, and they do a lot of work keeping a neutral rug from going flat.

A Neutral Brown Field With Beige and Gold Florals

The ground is a soft neutral brown with a distinct grey undertone, closer to taupe than to chocolate, and it shifts with the light: warmer and sandier in the overhead shots, cooler and greyer in the low angle close ups. Against it the drawing is worked in ivory, pale straw and a clear honey gold, with the gold concentrated in the palmettes and rosettes so they lift off the field. The wide border is a warm sandy beige that reads almost cream at the inner edge and deepens toward the outer stripe, which returns to the same brown as the field and frames the whole rug. This is a genuinely livable palette: it sits comfortably with oak, walnut, linen, brass and off-white walls, and it hides traffic far better than a pale ivory ground.

Chobi Ziegler Weaving From Pakistan

Pakistan is where the modern Ziegler, or Zigler, style is woven best, and this is a good example of that workshop tradition: hand-knotted on a cotton foundation, with hand-spun natural wool that takes dye unevenly on purpose, producing the gentle horizontal striation you can see across the brown field. The back photograph shows a tidy, consistent knot, straight rows and no bulging or drawing in over a span of more than 14 feet, which is the real test on a rug this large. The pile is clipped low so the vine scroll stays crisp, and the wool has a matte, slightly waxy handle that will burnish rather than shed as it is walked on. Selvages are wrapped tight and the ends are secured, so the piece is ready for daily use in a large room. As a new, unused Oriental rug, it has its full pile height ahead of it.
