A brand new, never used room-size piece, hand-knotted in India with a wool pile on a cotton foundation and drawn in the classic floral idiom that collectors know from the great Indo-Persian workshops. At 12' x 15'1" it is genuinely architectural: the ivory field reads as light rather than pattern from across a room, and the rust red border frames it the way a mat frames a print. The weave is even edge to edge, the selvages and fringe are original and untouched, and the pile still carries the full height it left the loom with. Design and Motifs

The field carries a true all-over composition with no central medallion: large open palmettes and fan-shaped blossoms sit on a lazy vine scroll that is drawn in ivory on ivory, so the tracery only reveals itself when the light rakes across the pile. Between the big flowers sit 8 petal rosettes, small cruciform blooms, curled serrated leaves and single tulip forms, each one shaded across 2 or 3 tones rather than filled flat. The layout mirrors along the length, and the 4 corners of the field are resolved cleanly, which is the mark of a drawing that was planned on paper rather than improvised. The main border is a rust red band of alternating ivory and gold palmettes linked by leaf sprays, set between narrow green vine stripes and a wide gold guard stripe that repeats a small red quatrefoil with green dashes, visible in the border close-ups. That gold outer stripe is what keeps the red from closing the rug in, and it ties the border back to the golden lights in the field flowers.

The Ivory, Rust Red, Green and Gold Palette

The ground is a warm ivory with a faint honey cast, closer to unbleached wool and old parchment than to a cool white, and the low-angle photographs show it shifting a shade lighter or deeper depending on which way the pile lies. Against it the rust red of the border is a soft brick tone with a brown undertow rather than a hot fire engine red, and it appears again in the field in the hearts of the rosettes and in the serrated red leaves. The greens are muted olive and moss, used in fine outlines and in the small leaves, and they do the quiet work of separating the reds from the ivory. Gold runs from a deep antique brass in the guard stripe to a light wheat in the flower petals, and there are secondary tones worth knowing about before it arrives: dusty rose and salmon pink in some of the blossoms, a caramel tan in the large palmettes, and a plum brown in the leaf clusters. Overall it is a light, warm, low-contrast rug that behaves as a neutral in a room of creams, woods and leather, while the border gives it enough red to anchor red or burgundy upholstery.
